SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

Aye. Like the paint on the toilet floor isn’t the end of the world, but it kind of just sums up a lot about the club.

Things done on the cheap, to a poor standard, with a lack of pride and care.
This is true. Shoddy. Standards are very low. Also people go on about lack of atmosphere but we must be the most over stewarded set of fans ever. Look at Leeds and Villa. They don’t get told to sit down and shut up, the opposite.

I'm not sure.

I know they have regular stadium meetings to highlight issues. I sent over the pictures of the paint job in the toilets to add to the list for the next meeting.

My daughter and me were on hospitality last season in the directors lounge. It was nowt flash to be honest.

Drinks were not included although for our group, the Foundation picked up the tab. Others were having to pay which they didn't expect, including a competition winner who thought everything was included. The lad on the bar had only been in the job for about 15 minutes before people started coming in. The bar wasn't set up properly, glasses and stuff were missing. He'd been left on his own as the other lad had gone looking for a bottle opener and he was flustered. Ended up doing some calming stuff with him as he was getting himself into a right state - bless him! Food was ok but nothing amazing. We got the main course before the match then dessert was served at half time. You have to queue to get out of the stand. We got back to the lounge and by the time we'd ate the dessert and got back to our seat, we'd missed about 10 mins of the second half. We were in the front row of premier concourse and had a good view but there was no atmosphere up there.

Much prefer the museum and my own seat.
The Directors Lounge?

Yeah, said it the other day but I think the atmosphere situation will come to a head sooner or later. It’s becoming too much of a talking point for the club to keep ignoring it.

I can understand why they’d want to prioritise the playing side, but even if they acknowledged the stadium needs work it would go a long way.

Broken window policy for me.
Lack of standards.
A lack of standards at SAFC is nowt new though. It’s been like this since WW2 started.
I take it there’s not many that go away with SAFC twisting on here about the quality of the concourse areas at the SOL? Every half time concourse I’ve been on is f***ing rammed and 50 deep at the bar.
Other than the really new builds - Spurs, Arsenal, likely Everton….where is an example of this gold standard that SAFC fans want?
Or, as per usual, are people twisting about very little?
Race to the bottom.

I believe the safety group, including the council, are on this.
We all know how the council love to be shite.

How can other clubs be allowed to stand up all game (looks at Leeds Chelsea etc) and we get absolutely hammered.

“Race to the bottom”.

I'm not sure it's a race to the bottom. It's just the norm if anything really. The vast majority of stadiums are the same, most worse, if anything.

Personally I could think loads of things worse to moan about and I'd imagine the vast majority of the people at the match would agree, it's just a vocal minority in this thread imo. Anyone who mentions stuff like dangerous is just OTT.

I don’t expect the SSOL to stand up to the likes of Spurs’ stadium, but it should be the best it can be and I’m not convinced it is. Sir Bob gave us a great stadium for the time and others have sadly let it deteriorate.

People say it’s dropping to bits are being a bit melodramatic imo, although the roof and cladding in particular are in dire need of replacement/renovation.

The race to the bottom is posters saying other grounds are shit so SAFC fans shouldn’t complain.

It isn’t like it can be very sketchy at times when it’s absolutely rammed. Like others have said it’s old now and didn’t need to be built like that and it’s not been touched since it opened. I posted ages ago we took my cousins kid to the preseason friendly the other year went down for chips and it was literally a crush down there. He got scared and we had to leave. Granted that was because it was one stand open but there’s been times it’s been like that in league games. People hang around the bar/toilet areas and it causes cramming. I just don’t bother anymore it’s not worth the chew on for shite drinks with kids that get overwhelmed behind the bar etc. whole thing needs to be revamped.

There's no pride or standards in the club and half the fan base.

On this thread alone you have posters comparing to Burnley, Shef Wed and Portsmouths grounds as if this makes our ground being a state alright.

I couldn't give a monkeys about the state of their grounds, have a bit of pride ffs.

Then there's the "we used to be in league one" squad.

Act like little old Sunderland and we'll always be little old Sunderland.

What is the point of building a stadium to enter and last the 21st century if you allow it to deteriorate and take no pride in it?

Would you buy a house, take a pride in it while the paint is still fresh but then just say ah fuck it, could be living in a council estate flat when the place deteriorates?

We’ve not got much to shout about in terms of success, but at one stage we at least had a stadium to be proud of. Now we’ve neither.

Agree, and I see this in many other areas of Sunderland life. It’s been engrained for years.

It's still a class stadium like and i'm still proud of it, but yeah it just needs a bit more looking after
