Champions Trophy 2025

Not taking anything away from the Afgans batting but we've been poor with the ball after the power play.

Win lose or draw. I think Butler's time as captain is done.
We got 350 in the last game on this ground against better opposition.
I'm not saying we can't win. Just that it's not a formality like you seem to think.

Buttler not a great captain however think that was more to do with lack of bowling skills than tactics.

It’s a good wicket so we may knock these off but sadly can’t see us winning anything with this attack.

And worrying even more is Rashid will not be able to go on forever

Not with the spinners they have, but on paper we have a deep batting team on a great wicket, so fingers crossed

He’s not a natural captain. He seems a nice bloke and he’s a great white ball bat, but he seems incredibly passive in the field and in interviews.
Agreed. I've been hoping he comes round but I just don't think he's suited to be the leader. Very insipid captain.

Aye mate, fingers crossed. I can still taste our last defeat to these.

Have to bat sensibly but not to leave too much backend against their spinners.

No, not with Wood injured.

They should have bowled Root out when he was going for 4 an over. Instead they brought Wood back and he conceded lots anyway as his pace was down.

It's just crap captaincy yet again.
You just bowl him until he gets some tap. You don't take an economical bowler off when you don't need him at the end. It was stupidy.

They were just starting to up the rate at that point Root would have been too easy to attack as proved later.

Sorry but that's rubbish. He was doing well. They should have kept him on until he got some tap or not.
All about opinions mate, he a part time bowler who we managed to get through move overs than we expected him to because they were rebuilding.

It’s not as straightforward as a normal bowler going for 4 an over, you would expect other full time bowlers to do better.

The statement of keep him on ‘ the game in the bag’ that you made was more rubbish.

Yeah I see your point about keeping him on for one more up to a point, but not the statement keep bowling him because game in the bag

Livingstone/Root as the fifth bowler is only something you can carry if you've got 4 world class bowlers.

Wood doesn't take enough wickets
Rashid isn't at the peak of his powers
Archer still on a transition back to form
Overton picked as lower order hitter who can bowl a bit.

Willey, Woakes and Topley are all better at this format. I also don't understand why Mahmood is on the bench too.

The captain and selectors want people who can smash the ball really hard and bowl fast. Rather than any real skill at either thing.

Not at all. We let the game get away from us by not keeping the rate down and not taking wickets. Root might have helped us do that but he was taken off for an injured player! Comical captaincy again.
