SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

The concourses are terrible, there is no other way to put it.

However, they are representative of a 15 million spend.
Oh aye look I’m not saying they’re great, I just don’t think for 15 minutes before a match and 15 minutes at half time every two weeks or so between August and May it’s that big a deal. Admittedly everybody is different. Already said I think some minor changes like mimicking what the Premier Concourse concourse is like would make it more inviting and ‘nicer’. Just think we have bigger fish to fry.

That’s the thing, it just isn’t a welcoming place for the customer. It needs to cater for all needs.

Christ knows how the disabled get on.

I’d happily stand in the wind and rain with roker park style facilities if we were competing in the prem.

That’s the ‘fan experience’ that most people are interested in until they support a team that’s competing strongly in the premier league. After that people get more bothered by the peripherals.

Having said that, if the match day experience is entirely negative - alongside the actual football - it’s more likely people will simply give up.

Cheap stadium cheap standards. Its way passed its best
I think your doing bob an injustice here ! he had an eye for a deal and got the best out of his quid!..I doubt the sol cost much more than the riverside stadium but its a much more impressive building.the standards have moved on but the sol was as good or better than most uk grounds built at the time! The spurs stadium makes the sol look like a beach hut but it reflects the new era of football stadia and i doubt the design or facilities would not be much different than the sol if it was built in 1997 as i said the requirements of corporate facilities has moved on!

We’re clearly not gonna get a new ground and comparing to the likes of Spurs or even Everton who’s cost in the high hundreds of millions is daft.

That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be doing all they can to improve it though. That SEC that used to be the kids section is falling to bits.

And let's be honest, even if we were building a new stadium now it still wouldn't be comparable to any of the top stadia in the country like Spurs who have benefitted from uninterrupted decades in the top flight and the investment that can be drawn in for being an established financially successful club with enormous corporate income pretty much guaranteed. Given our circumstances over the last 70 years, we did very well to get the SoL and it still stands up as a good stadium to watch football in, despite the shortcomings we are all aware of.

It’s crap like, had to use the lift on Saturday, didn’t work so had to use the other lift (apparently they turn one off at kick off).

Got to my seat in the prem next to the NW corner upper, full of kids with parents. The club couldn’t even be arsed to open up the north west concourse, saw loads of pissed off parents having to walk to the middle of the prem concourse for chips, then back up three flights of steps and along half a stand.

Also, the posh bits look like something from an old peoples home. Too much wood and carpet everywhere. Very dated.

If the club can’t even be arsed to pay a couple of staff for a few hours work, they clearly aren’t going to be arsed about giving the SOL a full renovation.

Because quite frankly it needs a full renovation

@Becs has RAWA ever asked what the clubs plans for the stadium are.

From this thread alone it's obvious s lot of work needs doing , wonder about the blue print bob Murray saw

The crowding on the concourse areas is shocking and I would argue at times dangerous. How a 48k stadium was allowed to be built with such limited toilets and space to move under the stands is beyond me. Surely with the space on 3 sides of the ground that lower area could be cheaply extended outwards without having to do much structural work. It kills income streams as many people don't want to be jammed in like sardines to get a drink/food while people are barging into them to try and shuffle to the toilets etc. Why do we put up with this?

On the plus side once into the stands I don't think there is a better ground for watching the game, brilliant views from every seat and particularly love the times have been in the upper tier over the half way line. But god does the rest of it need sorting.

I take it there’s not many that go away with SAFC twisting on here about the quality of the concourse areas at the SOL? Every half time concourse I’ve been on is f***ing rammed and 50 deep at the bar.
Other than the really new builds - Spurs, Arsenal, likely Everton….where is an example of this gold standard that SAFC fans want?
Or, as per usual, are people twisting about very little?
