Patto


Patto is approaching 25. A way off maturing as a keeper but no kid. Shay Given was 20 when he came on loan to us and was incredible. I was a keeper... I have studied Turner, Boulder, Hesford, Norman, Chambo, Tommy, Gordon, Mig and many many more... Patto I fear is at his peak, his development has stagnated, his feet have stupified, his thinking is unclear, his distribution is average and his communication is mute. Either the club addresses this or we cash in on the shot stopping show reels. Love the lad but he is all at sea at the moment.

He's costing us points, needs to be addressed. We still need points to stay in the play offs.

The point about stagnation is an important one. I often read that young players ‘will only get better’. Quite frequently they don’t. They reach a level and plateau for a variety of reasons.

I'm probably one of Roberts' biggest critics on here but mental how he can be blamed for that goal today IMO. No way he goes for that header if Patterson gives him a shout

I suspect the big money moves are now off the table.
 
His footwork is a big issue for me

When the ball is played back to him he seems to always insist on taking his first touch with the outside of his foot, this doesn’t fully bring the ball under control, it keeps rolling towards him and he ends up with the ball stuck under his feet and then he panics and generally boots it into touch or plays a poor pass. It’s pretty basic stuff really and I do wonder what the goalkeeping coach is actually doing with him in training.

I think it’s time for Moore to be given a go until he sorts out whatever is going on, as many have eluded to something doesn’t look at all right at the moment
