You're support is effing shit

When was the last time we blew teams away? Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 I remember that being a good atmosphere, ultimately we react to what's going on the pitch.
Atmosphere was poor that match. Like a pre season game.

Put it down to being to easy / game over

If we'd gone all out to bombard them when we had nothing to lose, the fans would no doubt have reacted and rose to the occasion (oo-er!).
Shambolic, slow witted and turgid approaches to games are hardly conducive to a great atmosphere.
We've had too many horrible games this season, and RLB needs to work on his starting lineups and subs.

That said, I have the patience to wait for promotion. We might not go up this season, i certainly didn't expect us to be top six before the season kicked off.
After the horrendous clusterfck of a season we had last time round, this has been a relative breath of fresh air.

He/she never goes to our games, and is one of the most negative posters on this board which is quite some achievement.

He goes away almost every week. I don’t know the fella from Adam other than he helped me out with a ticket for Pompey about 5 years ago.

To say he never goes is just a lie, and you should hunt some facts.

Today’s attendance of over 44k would rank comfortably in Hull’s top 10 all time attendances including their old ground.
Bit rich coming from the Mickey Mouse ***** like.

In almost every home game the away fans sing this. It's obviously not aimed at the amount of people in the stadium as we are the best in that respect as the numbers prove that.

It's obviously aimed at the complete lack of atmosphere and support for the team.

I've been a season ticket holder for decades and I must admit the last few seasons I've noticed a down turn in atmosphere

Having said that I don't think it's just a Sunderland problem I think it's noticeable at every other club when they play at home.

It's usually the away fans who make the most noise
It may be rose tinted glasses but my season ticket when I was a kid was in the southwest corner 6 seats from the aisle closest to the away fans. I'm talking the Reidy championship seasons. The atmosphere seemed electric every game. Had a season ticket in the South stand when they first moved the away fans to the upper tier and it was nowhere near as good.
I’m equally sure some supporters don’t have massive garden sheds
My internal garage is definitely not as big as any championship stadiums like. Can't even fit a car in the hewer.

Understand why you say that marra but it's a flawed argument. I came up for the weekend, met up.with 7 lads from Germany who came over specially for the game. To a man we are devastated at what was seved up to us today.

That doesn't mean we are entitled or that we have an automatic right to win based on attendance. But that performance today was absolutely garbage. If I had a pound for every sideways or backwards pass today I would be a wealthy man.

Support has to be earned, give the fans something to be encouraged about. These players are paid amounts that most ordinary folk can't even dream of. Not saying they necessarily deserve to be booed off (I didn't) but I wouldn't criticise anyone that did.

Today was shocking beyond belief and I personally wouldn't slag anyone off for not singing today.

Rant over. If you disagree, that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Do you disagree with the statement? If so, why?
Because it's been a great season , far better than most expected, generally playing attractive football, and the atmosphere has been shite all season.
When we played Leeds at home, we had , in our previous home games, beat derby convincingly, beat local rivals Boro , beat one of the favourites Burnley , and thrashed sheff wed.
Cos we were losing to another promotion favourites Leeds, a huge majority of the crowd had fucked off before we equalised.
Our home support , other than numbers , is a disgrace mate, and fans have to stop making excuses for why it's so shite.
Plymouth away , they are struggling near the bottom and their fans are great, even when losing, backing their team. A lot of us don't seem to give a fuck and would rather piss off early than backing the team and supporting us hoping we get a last min equaliser at home v Leeds.

First few seasons at the SOL our season ticket was north stand and that was good anarl
Sang loads. Great atmosphere.

Support is outstanding tbf. Best in the country. 44k in the championship and an average of 38/40k yet recently had a double relegation, 4 seasons in league one, 3 in the championship and got owners trying to do things on the cheap with yes some young talented players but no guarantees or expectations of success. Not like the mags who bought guaranteed instant promotion every time they were relegated and in the first promotion averaged 43k with 9k empty seats as champions.

On top of done nowt for 50 years, only 3 top ten finishes, no Europe, no trophies, record low points twice and the last sh it 10 years or so. 44k, unbelievable. Owners are rubbish, just take the mick and the fans for granted with attendances and shirt sales.

Atmosphere is rubbish as the football is rubbish. Manager is a cowardly French stick who is too cautious and defensive and doesn't know what substitutions are and squad rotation. Play direct, attack and be brave, tackle and the fans will not sit bored out of their skulls. Actually looklikely to score late goals instead of being defensive or conceding late goals and they might stay till the end. Stay as it is and atmosphere won't pick up until the prem is back, so probs never. Sunderland in the championship ffs they need to stop fannying about and be ruthless.

If the atmosphere was great when we played Burnley , Boro , Leeds etc youd have a point

But it's not.

Sitting like little mice cos the players aren't playing well , but still giving their all and leaving early when the game is in the balance. Leaving early when we are winning also.

State of our fans man.

Abnormal is a form of normal I guess

This, I'm not bothered if we get promoted this season or in three years or more. We have talented youngsters so attack and entertain not boring defensive tripe, or negative ends to matches, defensive and cautious. Lack of subs and players dead on their feet.

When I was a bairn me and me da had tickets up in the gods and one bloke used to absolutely belt out the songs on his todd whether people joined in or not. Used to think it was proper weird when I was a teenager but now every time I'm in the ground (I live away) I think I'd kill for that bloke now, I don't have the bollocks to do that

Sort of related story.....

I remember coming from Australia to see the '92 FA Cup Final.
Only ticket I could get was with a director from a Sydney Club (go figure, that's where FA Cup tickets go) in the posh seats up top, we ended up sitting next to Cheryl Lungi (actress from The Manageress).
Anyway it's all Prawn sandwiches and Champagne etc 🙄
Just before kickoff one of our lads, rolling drunk, don't even know how they let him in. Language was rough and course Mackam more that a little rude in the circumstances, more about the ticket he just bought off a tout .....but was singing his heart out, might of been @hank williams haaaaaaaway etc.. loud and proud.
I sort of admired him but I remained calm didn't join in and I just 'golf clapped' along with the hobnobs 🥵

I feel like we used to get behind the lads when the football was poor. Now they get booed off- and that even happened st half time.

Usually I find the crowd is lively when we have something to cheer
Absolutely this! They keep saying they need the fans to stick with them but it’s passion on the pitch that ignites us and for me, we’re not seeing it until we run out of time at the moment.

Yesterday was frustrating and reminded me of Mowbray days with no plan B. When we’re 1-0 down and we’re still waiting with the ball at the back for teams to come into us is painful and does not work. Teams like hull come to nick a point so they’re certainly not going to high press when they are looking at 3.
