You're support is effing shit

It has been poor for months. We play slow, ponderous football and everyone expects the opposition to score at any point.

I agree that it’s worse now than league 1 though. In league 1 we had our core 30k who’d be there regardless. The 12000 that have decided to come back aren’t core support and have diluted the atmosphere.

Not sure why people expect the opposition to score. Going into today we must have been on our longest unbeaten home run in 20+ years?

In almost every home game the away fans sing this. It's obviously not aimed at the amount of people in the stadium as we are the best in that respect as the numbers prove that.

It's obviously aimed at the complete lack of atmosphere and support for the team.

I've been a season ticket holder for decades and I must admit the last few seasons I've noticed a down turn in atmosphere

Having said that I don't think it's just a Sunderland problem I think it's noticeable at every other club when they play at home.

It's usually the away fans who make the most noise
"Your grounds too big for you" is sang most games too tbf.

First time I’ve.not had a drink before the game today so it may be that but couldn’t believe how twisty we were from early on. Moaning from about 20 minutes onwards. Don’t blame the crowd but it’s bad like.

Organic atmosphere is becoming a thing of the past IMO, not just at SAFC but throughout the country. The culture has changed and the game has become a lot more sanitised. The only way of combatting it is by having an organised singing section with "leaders" with microphones etc like in Germany. People won't like it but it's either that or the whole stadium sat in silence.

I also think that pretty much every game being available to watch on TV is affecting the attendances. I struggle to believe there were 44k people in the stadium today, seems like lots of people buy season cards but don't go every game, particular when there are early kick offs/night games on tele.

Except that you can’t ‘guarantee’ that if we were in the premier league the atmosphere would be better.

We’d probably be winning less games in the premier league so if anything it would probably be even more morose.

When we won the Third Division under Denis Smith, the atmosphere was good all season. The supporters didn’t say “we are not in the top flight, so we won’t contribute to an atmosphere”

Disagree that SAFC generating a home atmosphere is reliant on top flight participation.
Atmosphere was class in the 3rd division. Mind we were beating teams with ease.
Remember gatesy scoring against port Vale away.
Absolute carnage in the away end.

But that was the best part of 40 years ago, crowds have changed a lot since then and especially the average age of crowds.

We'd be playing against Liverpool man city the mags etc, doesn't matter If we are getting humped every week It would still generate a better atmosphere than playing the likes of Hull In the championship
Not from home fans. Cast your mind back to 05/06 when that was basically the case. The atmosphere was mix of apathy and toxicity.

Not sure if it’s SEB but for the first half on my feed I had commentary from our game but the crowd noise (including ref’s whistle etc) from the Millwall v Derby game 😂

Fuckin’ bizarre
