Southall was easily the best keeper of his generation, but there’s no way he’d be that dominant in this era.

I’ve no idea how he managed the saves he did with his physique but I really couldn’t see him adapting to the requirements of the modern game.

No... there was early Southall when Everton were the best team in the land, winning the title and the FA Cup - then there was the later, heavier Southall who was still very capable but nothing like the brilliant keeper he had been.
Early Southall would easily stand out in current Premier League sides.
 
For such a big lad who should frighten and physically worry attackers about getting injured and totally commanding at least his own6 yard box he doesn't and is very nervous

Like all great players, regardless of their position, he’ll have adapted to the modern game, and he was a fantastic keeper.

I do find it a little surprising when people say ex great players wouldn’t ‘survive’ in todays game.
 
Patto is ok for me. Would not make my top 10 at SAFc starting with Monty. However, it would not worry me if he left. Apart from a few seasons after our last relegation from the Prem we have usually found decent or good keepers.

Mind you I was not a fan of McGloughlin though I accept he was popular on here.

he cost us 2 points last night, cross was into 6 yard box and he completely missed it
 
I think there are a few positions needing improved if we are to become a genuine top 2 team, especially if the standard goes up.

Goalkeeper is one of them. Patto is a good shot stopper but everything else to his game is actually poor or average
