Jack Clarke

Reading between the lines he wanted to play PL and Ipswich was the only offer that came in of the back off as good a season as he was ever going to have. So his option was another season with us (no guarantee he would be as successful or that we would go up). So with the finances added in it was pretty a straight forward decision.

A complementary system and role in team would help, but all this move has confirmed is what other PL sides concluded in the summer when they decided not to bid for him: he’s a top end championship winger who’s not quite good enough at that level.
This is where we’ll have to agree to disagree. Another season with us could have had him flying & had more teams have a genuine interest. Ignoring injury or an unlikely major loss of form, Clarke would have been having yet another outstanding season ripping up this league in one of the best teams. Obviously neither of us knew how this season was going to pan out & despite us making a decent appointment, we looked more in trouble last year then potential automatic candidates

Just cos only Ipswich bid for him last year doesn’t mean it’s the only Premier League team that will ever come for him. Harsh to judge his Premier League ability based on a team that plays him away from his natural position, in the few minutes they give him while they usually getting stuffed.

The real positive for us is our young players haven't reached their ceiling yet. Bellingham, Rigg, Mayenda, Mundle, Watson and Aleksic are all under 21.

Obviously we would need major strengthing too but we may surprise a couple. The key is to get points on the board early. This year all 3 promoted sides went ages without registering a win.

It's very much an uphill task but somebody will break the cycle, what not us?
If we go up the investment needs to be primarily in the back 5, you have to be solid

Exactly, many here thought we would be relegation candidates after selling him, think there is a popular thread here showing that.
His move made sense at the time and I don't blame him one bit.

I think Ipswich have planned it out for if they go down looking at the players they brought in. They will be in a good position to go back up and seemingly built so that they can continue to build from there.

Think they've done a decent job tbh - they've bought smart and will have a team that will be one of the favourites next season and the players who likely won't hang around like Delap they will make a killing on.
I don't, at all. They've just bought the wrong players and have a manager who won't change his style.

You should be aiming for at least a point a game to survive. They are nowhere near that.
Doak looks a good player from what I’ve seen/know. But that screams of planning for next year. They’re still within a chance of stopping up.

Just looked at the table & thought Wolves would be further in front like. Feels like they’ve picked up a fair amount of points lately. If I just an Ipswich or Leicester supporter I’d be miles away from saying we’re fucked. It’s 2 from 3.

Don’t think we’d spend as much, but I think we’d spend it a bit more intelligently. Ipswich have a bit of a scattergun feeling about their signings. Clarke being an example. Sign him & never play him in a position where he excelled. Obviously if they stop up this post is complete bollocks.
At one stage Palace and Wolves were on a par with Southampton. Everton not much better. They were always likely to change managers and improve. Palace and Everton are now mid table, Wolves slowly starting to do the same.

Ipswich are gone unless they improve massively.

Get what you’re saying, but 13 matches left (I’ve already got Wolves as getting beat today) it’s pretty much a straight shoot out with this time left.

Just looked & Wolves are bottom of the form table, with the other two!

If I were Leicester or Ipswich, I’d certainly fancy us to catch Wolves rather than being resigned to them kicking on.

Also, pretty nervous time in the season. Palace & Everton could do that without too much “must win” pressure on them. Almost every match now, in the same way as us, Burnley & Sheff Utd is just a desperation to beat the other teams results. Wolves have got them both to play too, which could be the make or break.

Or people just interested to see how these players are getting on. We not allowed to talk about ex players now? Why does it make you angry to point you have call fellow supporters stalkers and pathetic? People could say the same about you and this thread…?
Because you lot repeat the same crap week in week out. Pining over some player who didn’t want to play for us anymore. It is pathetic.

Wolves have picked up 10 points in their last 8 games, survival form. Ipswich have picked up 5 out of their last 9, Leicester 3, relegation form.

They both have an outside chance. Wolves have a couple of points advantage and better goal difference, massive favourites to stop up for me.

I'm not pining over anyone. Don't want him back.

But the lad was f***ing brilliant for us while he was here, and a shining light.

I would like to see him do well and can't see the issue with being disappointed for him.

You don't like the thread, read summat else marra.

It shows the gap between the PL and Championship. Every chance 3 sides who biased the championship last season are coming straight back down with very few points. Clarke, one of the best players in the championship is struggling to get a game in a very poor PL side!

He had been a top end performer in the championship for 2 seasons. What could he have done in a 3rd season that would have made him more attractive to premier league clubs? You say they won’t be the only premier league club to come for him but it looks like they were

Won promotion to the Premier League in a young team maybe?

Even if he didn't, he would still have been the best player at our club, and got better offers from better clubs than he settled for with Ipswich.

He was just badly advised and made the wrong move.

So get himself into the same position he is in now but a year later in his career with absolutely no guarantee that it will happen anyway?

No.

Get himself in to a stronger position by proving his worth over a longer period.

He knows he jumped too soon, and at the wrong time, and with a bit of patience, he would have got a much better move to a club who had actually thought about how they could use him properly.

He knows it, and that is what makes it worse.

He might just be happy picking up his money every month, but somehow, I just think he is not that shallow, and I personally think he deserves more than just cash.

Other opinions are available.

He’s not gonna show his worth with another season in the championship man. Like I’ve just said he was arguably one of the very best players in it for 2 seasons in a row. Why would a 3rd season convince other clubs that they should go for him? It’s not like he’s a breakout 18/19 year old. He like be touching 25 at the start of next season. Who do you think would suddenly want him after 3 good seasons in the championship rather than 2?

All right mate.
You win.
Don't have the desire or energy to get in to a row over it.
Put another notch on your RTG bedpost marra.

I have my opinion , you have yours.

Enjoy.
