Something Real Madrid and Man City sometimes do. It's a sort of 5 in defence when the opposition have the ball and a more back 4, with a DM when we have the ball
The argument is to have all the best players on the pitch and positions they are comfortable. 09 is not a stranger to midfield. Even now he goes on forays up front.

Not strange at all. If the opposition are going to stick 11 men behind the ball and hoof it forward you want extra men in midfield to win it back more easily.

A bloke who moves up the pitch during attacking play wait for opposition to get back and defend and then pass the ball back to the goalkeeper when not pressured
