I came to the thread to say exactly that. Hope he can dig them out of the hole they are in. Might be worth signing Jimmy Glass so he is available for the last match of the season.

Not really. Believe it or not the club is a good prospect, owners who have backed the last two managers ridiculously well for the level of football (whatever they wanted they got), a brilliant fanbase for the level considering the shite that’s been served up over the last 2 years (3 home wins in 30+ games), top class living conditions for incoming manager. Add to that we’re only 5 points adrift with a squad of players quite a few of whom are too good for this level.

Any manager who backs himself will know it’s not a massive task to get the club to safety this season, beyond that there’s massive potential. Holloway’s inherited a far poorer squad of players at Swindon and in 17 games has enough points on the board which would see Carlisle safe. Hughes has 18 games to do it.

Evatt was interviewed, as was Jon Brady from League One, Warnock was spoken to and didn’t turn it down. Seems there were plenty interested. Can’t believe they’ve gone for Hughes in all honesty.

The relegation noose is tightening, teams just outside are now picking up wins. Sparky needs to put something together to put some points on the board to be in with a chance plus favours may be needed. It does look like 2 of those 3.

Can't stand Hughes. However he's a master of the dark arts. So I guess if he can coach some outright cheating into the side along with the decent footballing ability of the players he might get a tune out of them.

I was "watching" it on Radio Cumbria, they dominated the game (again) had god knows how many chances/attempts but cannot put the ball in the net, then Newp have one chance and score to win the game. I can't see where a goal will come from then if they can't prevent other teams scoring with their first attempt. Bye bye Blues. Yes there are whatever points still available but you have to start at home and no goals for and a single one against = bottom two.

It seems (from Bleak Midwinter Carlisle fans forum) that there are concerns about the owners' decision making/selections - which inevitably ends up at pitch level.

I knew from radio stats that Carlisle had by far most posession, double figure amounts of attempts, Newport had one. Large amount of work needs to be done around converting chances/hitting the target. Luck only plays a small part in it.

Even if it involves following up things the keeper spills.
 
Just seem to be finding different ways of losing games, much in the same way good teams find a way to win games!

Newport were as bad a side as you’re ever likely to see in league football, they were awful. Carlisle dominated for much of the game, 17 shots, Wearne and Embleton both missed glorious chances, keeper barely had a thing to do. Think it was Newport’s first attack of the second half, 76th minute, and score with their only shot on target all night. Kinda sums the situation up tbh.

If/when/however MH works out how to score a goal in games the pressure will lift hopefully so things will show more positive results. They only need to stay in games scorewise to be in with a chance of avoiding a bottom two spot. Getting any finish vastly alters games & players mentality. 🤞

When a game drags on without a goal when you're on top the chances of conceding rise as players get desperate so make mistakes at both ends which ends in what happened last night.

If you get over don't criticise too loudly it adds to the players chances of making a mistake.
