Sorry marra, you're probably right. I think I'm conflating two separate view points being the hypothetical decision making of the officials and what the official could or couldn't see in this scenario and basing his decision on that also based on what I can see of the ball not being over the line and the linesman's position meaning, imo, he couldn't possibly have thought the ball was over the line.

I dunno either way, I'm knackered and this debate is for some reason beyond my thinking today.

No worries mate. This debate comes up a fair bit and always goes the same way.

I just wish people would stop listening to Don Goodman and Micah Richards and start thinking for themselves a bit more.
