Alan Brazil talksport

Seems to me that Brazil (who was a very decent footballer btw) is yet another gob shite who uses the pretext of "common sense" to make offensive and demeaning statements.
I guess anyone who has a female member of their family involved at any level and in any capacity of the women's game appreciates the commitment, dedication and determination it takes to succeed.

Indeed. If any of the miserable gits on here had a daughter who played for SAFC Women they would be as proud as anything.

Brazil being incredibly sexist? No surprise there. Sounds like the OP is too.
Not sexist at all, merely stating fact. As Sunderland fans, what % of the fanbase are actually that bothered about the womens team? What % go to games, watch games, take any notice of results, know the players, take holidays at work around their fixtures, have their weekend moods dictated by their results?

It’s a tiny %, nobody is really bothered. That’s not to say people are against it, or hate it, or don’t think they should be playing, they’re just not bothered about it.

That’s all Brazil’s saying, when fans look at their 20 year plan for Manchester United, and are being asked to get behind it and buy into it, they’re not thinking about the women’s team they’re thinking about Manchester United first team.

Which is clearly a short sighted approach. If you look where the women's game has come in the last 20 years then there is clearly more potential for growth in the next 20. It would make a huge financial difference to Man Utd if they could fill their stadium every week rather than once a fortnight. There's also a huge overseas market to be one of the leading women's sides in the world.

He doesn't really. People do care about womens football. He is totally wrong .should football just be about the superstars ? No it shouldn't. Obviously talksport is for the skyboys, if people think lower leagues, womens football etc. shouldn't be mentioned.
He was specifically referring to the Manchester United fanbase, they aren’t bothered about the women’s team. In that respect he 100% has a point. Thats not to say there aren’t those who care about Manchester United ladies, just not the Manchester United fanbase as a whole.

Guessing you go to see the lasses every week do you?

Far be it for me to stick up for him but he was speaking in the context of man utds growth plan and was in fact correct as 95%+ of their supporters couldn’t care less.

Whether them not caring is right or wrong or “sexist” as you put it is a different discussion altogether

It’s not a short sighted approach, it’s fact! Listen you can’t force people to like something, the fact they’re not bothered about it shows this, market forces in action.

It’s like Manchester United forming a basketball team and incorporating it into its sporting club, rather like a lot of European clubs do. Fans in England wouldn’t be that bothered about it and you can’t force them into it, just because it’s popular abroad doesn’t mean it’s going to be popular here. Market forces would dictate how important it is to fans of the club, much like women’s football has.

Why do they even bother with a women's football team then? If market forces determine things

No i have been to see them though. Would like to do more often if I possibly can.

Watching the video there was definitely more to it than just explaining that people arent bothered about the womens team.

Double digit growth in revenues for women's game. Man Utd are already nowhere to be seen. Can they really afford to miss out on that money - especially if young girls in Manchester grow up to to be City fans?

Not a fan of Brazil but the point he was making was correct, the success of Manchester United will be judged on how the men's team perform and that is largely where the interest in the club is.

Currently there are 94K on the Beeb website viewing the league cup.

There are 6K viewing the female version.

So basically 15x more interest in the men's game this evening.
