TEST SERIES: Sri Lanka v Australia

SuperSub

Midfield
Another red ball series for the dwindling members of the cricket forum. Starts tomorrow morning @4:30, will be shown on TNT.

Teams haven't been named yet but the Aussies have confirmed that Head will open instead of Konstas. Expected to be a spin friendly pitch but not like the bunsen we saw in Pakistan last week.

Wasn’t aware of this one. Surprised they haven’t used this as an opportunity to give Konstas a run, whilst it’s not an easy place to bat they’re not vintage SL

It seems to be based on Head's record opening in India a couple of years ago, but I agree I it seems more sense to give Konstas an opportunity ahead of the Test Championship final and the Ashes.

Cummins is also missing due to his missus giving birth, so Smith is captain for the whole series.

Smith breaking their batting records feels a bit hollow to me.

All I picture when I see him now is a crying baby in front of the cameras.

Still 300 odd for 2 opening day is canny for them.

He's now 35, he'll almost certainly bypass Border and Waugh but he's a very long way (3,000 runs) behind Ponting and hasn't scored 1,000 since 2017. Not even 500 last year. I think Ricky is safe.

I didn't realise until I saw this Cricinfo graphic how close Root is, now only 400 behind Ponting, to No 2 in history. He has three good years left I reckon, no chronic fitness concerns even having just turned 34. Averaging 1,250 a year for the last four years and fewer than 3,000 behind Sachin. Wouldn't bet against him.
