Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

I do hope he gets his head down and works himself into the picture once he’s fit.

There's absolutely no reason to think he won't get his head down. He's a professional footballer with his whole career ahead of him. Whatever happened, it's all good for Watson with him being a lad with a bright future. It would be incredible if the lad isn't just looking forward to playing football and showing what he's made of.

Those who are making a big deal of him almost signing for Brighton are putting two and two together and getting shitloads of drama. The lad almost went, it happens, nobody knows what happened except those close to him. You'll probably get someone on here who reckons they know him and know exactly what happened, which is almost certainly bollocks.

'Great opportunity and challenge for the lad now. Can he force his way into the team at the expense of Mundle.

Bit of a discrace all this like.

Seems to be a lot of rumour and shite flying about which could have a really negative affect on a young lads career before it even gets going.

Some people should hang their heads in shame.
Especially when, IF there was any truth to some of the rubbish being spouted here, the person to blame would be Tommy’s lass’s dad/parasite/agent: the bellend that is Ian Harte. We have clear proof how that twonk operates with our club during the Clarke fiasco.

Need to forget all this and back him when hes back on the pitch, haway tommy lad

Exactly right. He's a Sunderland player who could make a big difference for us this season. Unfortunately, you're always going to have people who want to turn it into something they can be bitter about, just like the Dann's thread where you had people claiming it was typical of the people running the club, the lad simply failed a medical, it happens.

One of those things, it appears that the club were certainly open to moving him on providing we could get Brighton's lad on loan. At the very worst, it wasn't all Watson wanting the move, and the only post we have on here that appears credible is from a lad who knows people close to him and that post states he didn't want to go.

From where I'm standing, those who don't believe it are simply saying: "it can't be true, madness".

That's what's been reported by a few outlets, the Sunderland Echo being one. I reckon there are other reasons to believe it, e.g. Rigg's 220 quid as an apprentice as reported by the Sunderland Echo, organisations that work with young players giving us a salary range, Watson being not even a squad regular when he signed.

I reckon it's about right, but we'd only go 'round in circles from here with others saying: "it can't be true", and me pointing to various sources suggesting it can very much be true.

Either way, the lad is a Sunderland player, just needs to have a good second half of the season when he returns.
The apprentice wage is fixed the clubs don’t get to decide what it is. Year 1 is a figure then it ups in year 2 . You’ve been shown a contract from 20 years ago that shows someone on 450 a week with miles less potential/reputation that Watson. You’ve got a family friend telling you he is on 2.5k, you got some who knows someone in the Scottish second at the same age on 500. You’re saying he was only in the squad a few times, yes that’s massive at 17 man. He was an England age group international with a number of clubs trying to pinch him. He took 5 months to sign a deal and you think they agreed on 600 quid a week after all that. What was our first offer a tenner. Anyway if you’re right fair play to him stretching 600 quid a week out to a 40 grand merc, holidays in Dubai and trips to the likes of Paris every time we don’t play and always wearing 2/300 quid T-shirts etc.

👏🏻 end of thread

I don’t think Harte is his agent

Interesting that Brighton have now agreed an €8m fee for a 19 year old danish kid Clement Bischoff. Has played a few games at left wing back but is more of a left winger apparently.

Let’s not be naive. All he had to say was I don’t want to leave, I want to get fit, get in the team and win promotion with Sunderland. And that’s the end of that.

He didn’t. He doesn’t want to be here so we have tried to sell him but not leave ourselves short and it hasn’t got done.

Fuck him

The bigger context here is how Harte leverages wealth for himself, his daughter and thirdly Watson.
If his parents had their heads screwed on they would be saying stick at proving yourself, there is a bigger prize than the first thing that comes along.
Harte was agitating to get Clarke away for so long that he’s made sure watsons contract is ran down.

I hope the club tell him he won’t play unless he signs a contract . Plenty of players here … many better than him who are committing their future
From his dads best mate

He didn’t want to go

Sunderland told Brighton £12m and the lad on loan for the season

Tommy and Martin travelled down as told by his employer

Deal not done, Tommy is delighted to stay at Sunderland

Agree a contract then.

Is there a new contract on offer at SAFC?

Good news for us surely, and not joining 'til summer. Hopefully TW will be signed on to a long term contract here by then.
