Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Brighton have been quite persistent about this. They must have got some encouragement in the summer to come back so strongly. Its also possible they rate Watson a little higher than we do at this point. The noises are just that but it would seem the club are pretty determined not to have their pants pulled down. I just worry that having to use up our last loan on somebody like Adingra makes it more difficult to get in the striker we need to cover/support Issy.

Making Isidor permanent last week opened up a loan slot. We have two available.

Mad we’ve turned that much down.

If the player is down there, be interesting if they come back with one final offer later on.

We Should still be after Adingra regardless

Sounds to me that we rate him more than they do because they can't meet out valuation (yet).

We’ve pretty much signed a striker from Liverpool and signing Wilson in a permanent freed up a loan spot no?.

He’s not f***ing coming here mate. Our leverage over Brighton was the only reason we had a tiny chance.

🚨⛔️ Sunderland turn down £13m package bid from Brighton for Tommy Watson, deal off.

Discussions also took place for Simon Adingra on loan as part of the deal but it won’t happen.

It's nonsense to be having a go at the club on this one too.

They have been very proactive with contract extensions over the last few years and the only cases they haven't managed to get an extension done is when the player has put their foot down and said no (Stewart, Clarke) and in each of those cases, they club have got a decent fee in given the circumstances.

They'll clearly have been trying to get him tied down but it's not North Korea, players cannot be forced to sign a new deal if they don't want to.

You only have to look at examples in recent seasons of Patterson, Ballard, Cirkin, Neil, Alese etc to see that they are on the ball when it comes to this.
Agreed however Neil only has 17 months left on his contract iirc?

Reading between the lines, it looks as though we would only accept if we had a replacement. Obviously tried and failed so he’s coming home. I do worry about how it will affect a 18 year old who probably thought he was away and in a contract stand off. Hopefully it’s something that can be sorted and he will have a few weeks to get over it on the treatment table!
