Pretty much this, if we're clearly the winners of the deal we'll take it. Otherwise we're not interested.

Let's not forget that the club can't force the lad to go to Brighton, he could easily turn them down and that would be the end of the deal altogether.

Brighton in the Premier League isn't a bad place for a young lad with the potential of what Watson has, and they've been chasing him for over 2 seasons now so he may just see his future there instead of here.

Maybe, but that would be disappointing if true. A young local lad pushing for a move this early in his career when he has proved so little, and we are doing well, isn't what you want to see.

Clearly no one wants Tommy Watson to leave but this would go a long way to softening the blow and would likely put us in a better position to push for promotion this season even if Watson has a higher ceiling. £10 million+ banked, good add ons / sell ons, plus a player that could make a real difference to our promotion push would be a good deal if he's refusing to sign a new contract and is intent on leaving (if the speculation is accurate).

If it's a loan to buy that would be another Premier League ready player already in the squad if we managed to get promoted.
