Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

I personally think the only way i'd be willing to come to an agreement with Brighton here is if Clarke was to come back on loan. Ready made replacement and improves us.

I'd still be holding out for something like £15m + a sell on though. Watson will be a top player imo
Think Watson will be off but we won't be getting Clarke

Course they do, if get offered daft money. The club is in a good position in that don't need to sell and whatever the faults of a sustainable approach to football, one of the positives is that you're not desperate for incoming money.

In the sense of discussions with journalists and then printed in the press. The press have printed that the club are very much open to a deal for the right money. I suppose there's always a chance that the press are talking out of their arse.
Only halfway direct words were from Le Bris who said that if we lost Watson, we would need a replacement. That is very different to saying that we will sell forthe right money. Given that we have no time to identify and sign a replacement, I would be surprised and disappointed if he were sold. And am presuming that Le Bris would feel the same.

Sky Keith just regurgitates internet rumours. He steals a living as a reporter. Obviously has some contacts at the Landfill due to his fellating of the dubious regime but the rest of his NE coverage is bollocks.

Anyone listening to him needs help mind. Glorifying being an unprofessional pi$$ head in that podcast. Wouldn't even get to talk to my kids about representing them.

Hope Watson stays. But if he goes we just need to play hard ball on the sell on clause. Strange a lad whose dream is to play for the lads is happy after so few starts. Unless the injury has made him think how quickly it could all change.
If his first injury has shook him like that I would fear for his ongoing development anyway. Cant have even 1% of what if i get injured in the mind as a player .

If Brighton want a player for say 9m it’s so they can pedal them in 2 season for 60m+. We keep him and make more than 10m for our own player in the future or ask Brighton for a lot more than they are offering…which they won’t, they will stick to their model

Agree with this. Tell him he is staying and offer an improved contract. His risk also is to sit out next season if there was a sulk, which I don't think there would be.

"If" we were to go up and he starts doing it in the prem, then selling him for what would be a much higher fee would also benefit us more from a PSR perspective too

Think it just means that the club want more for him. All indications in the press/club statements are that Watson has a price.

I know absolutely nothing on this, but I do think, as we've seen with Ross Stewart and then Clarke, the club will look to move players on if they're not going to tie down on longer term deals rather than get into the last year. The Ross Stewart one ended up being fantastic for us - but they'll look to avoid getting in similar situations again.

If there's anything in Watson leaving it's for this reason.

Poveda

The bloke who turned up unfit, hadn't trained for months and still hasn't started a game and it's February.

Aye he's certainly ready to hit the ground running.

Some of the others are valid but I'm talking about a starting 11 cert and improvement from the start. Clarke was benched alot and didn't even start the playoff final. It was 2nd season before he flourished.
Regardless of the injuries, he was signed as a professional player with about 100 professional games under his belt.

He was signed as a player expected to "hit the ground running" unless you are trying to change the criteria to suit your narrative.

I also notice you ignored the other 11 players I mentioned...

I wasn't talking about signing young kids, you misunderstood my point. I was talking about numerous being injured or needing to get sharp etc. I'm not one who go on and on about signing experience.

To say poveda was ready to hit the ground running is ridiculous. He still hasn't even got going.

It’s one thing signing unfit players in the close season, January signings however have to be ready to go otherwise what’s the point in signing them.

Last season we signed styles who had just had his appendix out and missed a few weeks

Sure we signed Anderson and Lihadji in January aswell. Contributed not a sausage between them.
