Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

We are short on the left as it is. If we take the money, too late to get a replacement or would have to pay over the odds.
but if he wants to be away and we say no hes unlikely to be playing out of his skin is he , so whats the point

Assuming all the posters saying we should accept £10m are basing this solely off his first team appearances. I'm sure Tommy himself would admit it took him a few games to get up to speed but he was looking our most dangerous player before the injury.

At 18 he has been head and shoulders above everything at u21 level. The fact that Brighton is the club desperate to sign him, should be a big indicator that we should keep him here aslong as he wants to stay. Keep at all costs he'll be worth alot more than £10m providing we can tie him down to a contract.

We lost a youngster to Brighton not that long ago (can’t remember his name), anyone know how he’s getting on?

If the deal is £8-10m + add-ons that are realistic and take it up to £15m, I think it's a solid deal. I don't think it's out of the question that he plays for England, but it's equally not out of the question that he gets injured a lot and never quite makes it.

As long as we bring someone in, I don't hate this. Of course it'd be nice to get him back for 6 months too...

Oh I don't disagree with you mate, it's more just that the likelihood is we won't get the same sort of fee if we wait till the Summer and he doesn't sign a new contract. If Brighton want him as much as they appear then I think the club might be able to drive the price right up to the point they think it makes sense.

Folk talking about 15-20 million. Haway man Clarke was our best player and barely got that fee. Watson's played a handful of games in senior football.
Only one club wanted Clarke.

There’s seemingly a few in for Tommy = price pushed up.

Personally, I’ll be livid if we end up £10m+ sitting in a bank account and no time to invest it.

Be nowhere near that. 10 + 2 probably acceptable. He will be showcased a few games for them
Over the next couple of years and sold on for 30m plus. We could do the same should we go up.
It all just takes the edge off football really, just all a money go round. Not sure I even want us to go up and be part of it….
