Mick Lewis

Cornsay62

Central Defender
At the risk of upsetting certain posters I hereby convey the news that Aussie Mick Lewis has joined Yorkshire as 1st team bowling coach,. Lewis was a Durham player in 2005/06 around the same time as the General Manager of the White Rose county ,Gavin Hamilton.🏏
.

I must admit I remember Mick Lewis playing for Durham but can't remember his performances. Did he do anything of note?

He probably did but age plays tricks with the memory.

From what I can remember he was better in his first season than his second where he didn't seem to be bothered half the time. I also recall him coming in at No.11 at the Riverside against Hampshire and hitting Warne for three sixes in an over.

Was here in 2005 & 2006. He came in to replace Noffke who was injured most of his time here, he did quite well the first season but wasn't as good the next.

Didn’t he have the worst bowling figures in an ODI? Sure it was South Africa vs Australia
Spot on marra, 10/0/113/0 way back in March 2006 when he could well have been signed up for his 2nd season at Durham

Record stood until Oct 23 when Bas De Leede went for 10/0/115/2 against the Aussies

Yes that unwanted record at the time is something I do remember. Remember Bas' bowling that day too.

Didn’t Shaun Tait hold it prior to both of them too? Whom of course also played for Durham - although not with the distinction of the others. Oddity that Durham seems to have such a connection to such an unwanted record.

I've checked the records of both T20 and ODI and there's no mention of him although there's a few with Durham connections. I knew he had problems with overstepping but was surprised to learn he only played 2 FC games for Durham.A wicket less 12 over spell v Somerset which saw 21 no balls and one more

Just the two. I was at the Somerset game and it was awful to see a bowler struggling like that. I don't think he even managed to bowl a maiden in his short stay here.

I can recall a Sunday League match at Scarborough where he had a large tape measure and a bowling coach in attendance. They tried all kinds of run ups etc to try and conquer his overstepping problem, I don't think he played in the game

He was contracted for 4 games at the end of that season but his no ball problem was such that we didn't play him in the last two.

I'm no bowling expert but it's strange how an international bowler struggles like that.

Yeah my memory of him is really sketchy to be honest, I just remember a bit in Tim Wellock’s book about his struggles and that after he left Durham he said a few pretty uncomplimentary things about DCCC which Wellock felt were very harsh considering Alan Walker had spent hours with him in the nets trying to help him with his yips.

That was what Wellock was talking about.
