Mayenda discussion thread

He’ll get nowhere near six goals this season.

I’ll wager right now he’ll finish on two, three at a push.
Worth pointing out that Jobe at 17 played Cf and scored 7.In fact if we dont sign a proper striker I would put back up front.

Our top two are really quite poor..Im more annoyed now than just after the match. The truth is the league isn't very strong and we are going to let matters slip away which is galling

A couple of weeks ago the perceived wisdom was he should be up front instead of Wilson.

I’m guessing no one’s asking for that little experiment any more?

It’s his strongest position as he is a handful a real scrapper, as he proved at beginning of season. Trouble is he’s not an instinctive goal scorer, at least not yet .
He contributes a lot to the team effort but that’s not enough.
Be better off with Ba back in the team

No way

The comments about him playing out of position are superfluous. The two chances were as a striker which apparently he is. He certainly has raw power over the first 5 yards. Seems to me hes been spotted at say 13 or 14 as an athlete and someone has said have you tried football. Technically poor and decision making poor. That said, hope he does well but I think he's still a few years away from a decent footballer.

Subjected too? He's was applauded off pitch today when he came off and I heard no one having a go.

He was being terribly abused by quite a few around me. Very vocal and very angry.

He's also being asked to start week in week out in a league that he just isn't up to yet. It's not his fault he's being hoyed in the deep end over and over despite clearly not being up to it yet.

At least he's got the balls to keep going and trying.

The sooner we sign a striker and get Watson and mundle back , maybe Poveda, rigg, Browne etc... the sooner he can be taken out of the firing line

Personal opinion this but I honestly believe goalscoring is a natural instinct and you either have it or you don’t regardless of age. He’s quite powerful and quick but I’m sorry he just doesn’t look a footballer. It’s not like he did well out on loan either.

Well at least the 19 year old has been in a position to score, in the last two games. For which he should have dome credit.
Then if all the shit piled on him for the misses does not put him off... heay well come good, the more 1st team experience he has.

Meanwhile Liverpool have a slightly older striker who puts 110% effort on like Mayenda, but he becomes a folk hero, of a sort... says a lot about our so called supporters who are vile about him

Are you comparing Mayenda to Darwin Nunez?

He’s paid a small fortune to play in the championship. He’s missed a 1 on 1 and a free header from 3 yards out in consecutive games.

He was lazy as fuck all afternoon too. Watched Stoke players run away from him whilst he walked back. Danny Collins said as much on commentary.
Wouldn't know what Collins said and not sure why that's so relevant. He turned Gooch inside out a few times though. Putting a defeat on his toes is just daft.

Agreed. What about a CF option that pushes back the CBs? Rather than rolling around clutching an ankle or sticking a toe in half heartedly. Not saying that Wilson, Mayenda or Connelly don't have a role to play, but they can't play that role at all and that is needed at certain points in a game.

Cornelly Doese have a role toplay. I wonder which century the club will be asked to eventually play it. IF EVER.
