Mayenda discussion thread

A couple of weeks ago the perceived wisdom was he should be up front instead of Wilson.

I’m guessing no one’s asking for that little experiment any more?

He just timed it all wrong
He didn't appear to try to connect with the ball on the side of his head. He just put the middle of his head though the ball when facing away from goal.

The Stoke miss at home, albeit a far easier chance is exactly the same style of header. Weird, I would expect a child to have better technique.
Blackburn miss was lack of experience sadly todays miss was pure lack of ability.
Free headers aren't a hard skill. That can 100% be taught and learnt.

Not at all his goals have been mainly tap ins the box that have fell for him playing as a winger he’s not good enough footballer
He has scored 2 goals, one was na opportunist strike from outside the box, the other was a tap in with no-one marking him.

Lads a professional footballer playing as a striker he will have been through lord knows how many coaches before he came here, all will have tried to teach him how to head a ball.

I hate poor technique by professional players who have literally all week to practice and I'm afraid today that was horrendously poor.

He missed an easier chance in more or less the exact same way against Stoke at home. He is facing away from goal and heading the ball in the middle of his forehead. It's not rocket science, the ball will go in more or less a straight line.

He needs to connect with the ball with the side of his head, glancing the ball which is piss easy. The manager / coaches should have been on his case after the Stoke miss at home.

A far harder skill is to use your neck muscles to turn into the ball at the last second and time it using the middle of your forehead. That's the only way to score the way he was trying but it's a daft way to make an easy chance hard.
Correct it’s there job and can practice even more if they wish, when you see someone doing stuff a Sunday morning player would be embarrassed by it’s not good enough really, I understand ppl want to get behind ppl rather than criticise but unfortunately this isn’t a kick about with your mates

Isador is hopeless at the minute also and so it least having a striker who can run and is strong but also cant score is the slightly better option

Hit the corner of his heed I was right infront of it

Scary to think how shit Rusyn and Connolly must be in training if they can’t get a look in over him
Rusyn is League 1 standard. A truly bizarre signing.
He’s scored one goal from outside of the box and one tap-in. He’s also missed two absolute gifts inside the six yard box mate. He ain’t a sniffer.
It would be ideal if he was that type of striker, but he not and will never be it. He's got next to no 'sniffer' ability at all. At the moment all he's shown is that he's quick and pretty physical but is let down by his technical ability on the ball. He is never going to be a Defoe type player as he just doesn't have the ability.

Gifts against West Brom, Blackburn and today have cost us 5, if not 7 points. His age is immaterial. If he doesn’t have it now, he’ll never have it unless we put some serious work into his mindset and composure.
Even then, it may not as strikers are a rare breed where you either have it or you don’t.

You have to be on a wind-up? He’s the exact opposite of that at the minute.
People said the same thing about Harry Kane when he couldn't put a run of goals together on loan and first couple of seasons at Spurs. Players need to play and get experience, he's still bairn with barely any game time.

Now he's not going to turn into Kane but he can improve to a decent standard. He might not but I wouldn't write him off fully just yet.

Unfortunately, his list of missed sitters is now longer than his goal tally. That header today was poor technique. Not getting a shot in versus Blackburn was lack of composure. There are other recent examples as well.

Still only 19 though and has shown glimpses of quality and composure in the past.
