Milan Aleksic - Confirmed

I don't think we need to loan him out. We just need to give him some game time off the bench. He looked promising in a really difficult situation against Millwall so no idea why he hasn't been seen since. Rigg going off on Thursday was the perfect time to get him on.
Maybe he is just not very good.

Squad would be pretty small if we applied that to everyone. He’s very young, the success of Rigg, Watson and other youngsters seems to have skewed expectations of players being ready for regular first team action.
Fair point but with this lad as he been given a chance?

Watson wasn’t great in his first game but found his feet and was then outstanding before his injury.

This lad hasn’t been given a chance. Given the investment we made you would have thought he would be given more opportunities.

We didn't pay 3.4m for any of those lads.

That's a big amount of money for us. I don't think anyone was expecting to see the lad start games or have a huge impact this season, but the lack of minutes he's had at any level across the club is strange. Even more so that he's continually on the bench when he'll definitely not be match fit now. We may as well have another one of the lads out of the U23's sat there as reward for playing well instead.
Pretty sure that is one of those fees that could total £3.4m with all add ons met. But I think we pay that happily if we believe his value will increase, especially off the back of a sale like Clarke. We are long term thinkers now, don't be surprised if we sign more young 'uns in January who don't come straight into the team.

The only thing I think is strange is that he's barely been involved in the u21s. It's not strange that Jobe, Rigg, Aouchiche and Connolly are more trusted at this stage.

Exactly. Aouchiche never has been and never will be a central midfielder. This lad was brought in for good money and is an international footballer. Get him in.

Mate, as I've already pointed out, I wasn't expecting to see the lad jump ahead of the lads we had already, him not being a starter isn't my concern. It's the total lack of minutes in total since being at the club that had me puzzled. I think everyone gets that the plan is to buy young and steadily build them up to replace outgoing players, but this lad surely can't have improved in the time he's been here by not playing any football at any level?

There was talk of this lad being one of the brightest young talents about and Liverpool being interested in him for their development squad. We must have told the lad and his agent that he would be given opportunities here to get him to sign over clubs like that? I just hope the lad doesn't become disillusioned.

Adil's basically been on the transfer list until, Regis had absolutely no other option than to actually use him. That's how Aleksic got his only minutes so far, but again that was a reluctance from the head coach again to use a player who he either doesn't trust enough yet or doesn't fancy at all.

I get Aleksic has been signed with future seasons in mind, but as a club that doesn't spend huge amounts of money, I think the board themselves would have probably expected to see Aleksic being included more than what he has been.

Let's see hwta happens if Riggs injury keeps him out for a while, that should open the door for Aleksic to come in and at least get some valuable minutes to keep the lad progressing, but that's up to Regis.

The proof is in the pudding that we are the right club to come to for young players to get their chance. There is no debate to be had about it. But he's been here 4 months, could allegedly barely speak English on arrival and has had our best players play in his position. He also only turned 19 the day he signed for us, Harrison Jones is a full year older!

Improvement for him so far could be as simple as him picking up the way RLB wants to play with him in 1 of the wide triangles. The league he came from looked a world away from the Championship and he'd barely had 30 games at that level.

Absolutely mate. He was our “big money” signing of the summer so, it’s a bit puzzling for him to have only played about 20 minutes

None of that still explains why he's not playing any level of football at the club, which is ghe big question. This lad must be very decent for us to have paid what we have, so again, why is he sitting about? Im sure all our age groups have the instruction to play the same kind of football as the first team, and if he's been scouted well, then he should have similarities to how we want to play.

Anyway, I guess this conversation will roll on a while yet before we come to an outcome like we have with Jewi and Rusyn, who have both struggled or Aleksic can be the first turn the tide on our foreign scouting.

Preparing him to step in for jobe or rigg should they leave he’s already settled remeber succession planning that everyone used to go on about ? but can’t seem to get the jist

he may not be ready physically yet and needs a season in the gym by that time he will be ready to step on for jobe or rigg

I think it's obvious why he isn't featuring for the first team, because we're in close games every week and have got ourselves into a very strong position.

Why he isn't playing u21s I don't know, maybe RLB sees more benefit with him getting experience around the first team, rather than missing training to go and play with them. Just pure guesswork, as I say it's been 4 months, absolutely no time at all at his age.

As to your second point, still plenty time for a lot of the foreign signings. Likes of Triantis is impressing on loan, Seelt looked like he had something pre-injury, Isidor and Mayenda on their way to being successes, Aouchiche contributes but probably will want away to get regular games. Ba and Michut both done quite well at times.

But Aleksic was an 18 year old who couldn't speak English with 1 seasons worth of games at a level that looked much slower, your immediate expectations need to be tempered.

Didn't that Ivanovic, his mate, come over to Millwall about the same time? Same age etc. yet he's featured in about 15 games for them. They have no problem playing him.

Well see mate.

I don't need to temper my expectations. Like I said above, I wasn't expecting the lad to make a huge impact this season, but I did expect to see more of him than what we have and we'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

The lads you mention btw all speak English. Some have been on loan to clubs in the country, which would be a good step for Aleksic if there's no game time for him here or in the lower age groups. Any footballer not playing football at any level is going backwards.

Thing is mate they dont even play him in the u21s,all this time on the bench he could have been getting games against some very good Prem teams. As my old grandad used to say ,I think theres a rabbit away here.Anyway all the very best to you and family for 2025

Great news. Got any other tips from the future you have seen?

Hang on you said he was a great signing a few posts back?
Did I ffs must have been a typo or I was being sarcy.
I know the same as the rest of us about him, zilch.
Im saying maybe after he has been here for 4 months and after being looked by the coaching staff, they have decided he is not very good.
I mean he was dubbed a 'wonderkid'.

This is exactly what I don’t understand. Reggie said he has needed time to acclimatise (the pace of the game etc) and also learn the language. Surely the best way for that is to be plying games- even with regards to the language for stuff used during matches?

The club are taking their time with him, letting him settle in, learn the language and the culture. We are 4th in the league and CM is arguably our strongest position. I see no need to rush him into the team, nor do I understand the clamour/fewm from certain sections of our fan base. Maybe people are just desperate to label him “not good enough” and use that as a way to criticise Speakman.
