Oatcake not happy again (at us again)

In the Cannon thread:

Cannon is the best striker we’ve had since relegation. Not a lot of competition admittedly, and there is flaws in his game but let’s be realistic, if he was the finished product then he wouldn’t be on loan with us would he? Hes been given virtually nothing in terms of service in 90% of the games we’ve played this season and if he went too a side which was performing better and was more on the front foot then he’d score a hat full of goals. It’s no coincidence that a lot of players who have moved on from us whether loans ended or sold have gone on too look ten times the player they did when playing for this cursed, biblically horrific club

Now I'm worried he's going to have the game of his life against us on Sunday.

I'd be surprised. I don't personally agree with that view either. To me he's an old fashioned poacher, a decent finisher for sure but a forward that if not scoring you can miss being on the pitch at all. Strange player in the modern game and has really gone missing lately.

In the prediction league, I've decided to go with 2 goals for Stoke (Cannon, Gooch), haven't decided yet how many we will score ...

Cannon scored 4 goals in one game a few months ago, in a 6-1 win against Portsmouth. One of those was a free kick and one was a penalty.

Aside from that game which was certainly an outlier of a result, he has 2 non-penalty goals all season.

They all count of course, and no doubt he'll probably score the winner against us after me posting this, but I suspect for the loan fee and wage contribution that they are paying Stoke will probably be pretty disappointed with his production from open play so far.

I hate this ‘stadium too big ‘ rubbish. Why does it need to be sold out every week, that just creates a situation where some fans particularly those that arent as well off can’t get to a game. The size of our stadium is just fine and allows for the next generation of fan to experience a live game, utterly ridiculous to want a stadium without the ability to welcome these people.
This^^^

If RP had been sold out every week and was season ticket mostly, I would never have the memories and love for the club I have now, cos I could never afford a season ticket.

Really good time to play them, in crisis mode again.

Several threads about sacking their latest manager ...

  • If ever a gaffer’s deserving the sack,
With toothpaste white sneakers and dull flannel slacks,
Commander Spock pluckbrows and guff, post-match quack,
And close lidded blind-eyes in Sharpie pen black,
    Encouraging football that’s borderline cack,
    It’s Manuel-esque tactician, Narcis Pelach.
  • Please leave now
  • He wears nice knitwear,
    His trainers are white,
    'Tis such a pity,
    His tactics are shite.
  • Any, and I mean any, other manager would play a higher line
That one simple thing would make a clear difference instantly
All the outfield players are playing worse under this manager than under the last one, that's a fact
There's only one outcome by sticking by this absolute fraud
  • He is Spanish and not up to it
But he’s handicapped by senior management being shit
Soon as we concede, we are destined to fail
Next season we will be playing the Vale.
Can't see anything other than a stoke win then😂, see Plymouth away

He has but how much of that was down to his relationship with Ade Viveash who he apparently fell out with, and subsequently got the sack not long after? Don't know too much about it but from the outside with limited knowledge it sounds a bit iffy to me. Given our current status I'd prefer a manager like Mowbray who has proven he can go into a club and work with other staff members like at your place for example.

Yes, as I said earlier in the thread I wouldn't have appointed either and would have certainly sent them down the road a while ago. Walters wouldn't have even got the job had his name been Phil Smith and never had played for us. It's a real weak spot of John Coates. He loves employing an ex player and it's crap. He needs to change that.

Robins is not keen on working with a DoF, to put it mildly. Coventry appointed one in the summer, and the fallout seems to have begun almost immediately. To be brutal, unless he's prepared to drop total control, he's going to find his opportunities increasingly limited. He may want Walters gone as a precondition.

I could certainly be on board with Walters going, but I think the Sporting Director role has to stay in football. Managers these days are more coaches than managers and need that man above them, and the clubs need it too for continuity.

It just has to be the right man, which Walters isn't.
