I’d class a ‘music city’ as one that actively promotes its own musicians in its best venues and also looks to attract the best musicians from around the country/world to play there as well. This exposure then in turn gets the citizens of the city actively interested in all kinds of music and thus creates a ‘music city’. Encouraging future generations to either start playing live music or go out and listen to live music.
Just my take on it like 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s basically a label you apply for based on what you do to promote & facilitate music, especially grass roots in the city. That “label” should open the door to more footfall, recognition etc. I was at a presentation on it & we’d be in good company city wise.

I believe Newcastle/Gateshead found out we were doing it & have decided to launch their own bid. Cos god forbid should Sunderland do anything positive
