The Pep myth

I think the demise of De Bruyne has affected them as much as Rodri.
Offensively although they obviously have other threats he was the one who provided the most killer passes and moments he was hugely productive, while Rodri ensured protection against the counter.
Players like those two are very hard to replace their absence has effected the whole rhythm of the team and effectiveness.
Think other teams have been prepared to attack them this season. With spectacular results.
But, a few other reasons for this season's poor results :-

Foden has been injured a couple of times this season. Also a shadow of last season's level, when he has played.
The Back 4 has constantly changed due to injury.
Walker, who has saved City as the rapid, covering defender, has lost his pace.
Pep seldom uses all 5 subs, also rarely makes a sub until 70+ minutes.

Think City will finish 4th, which is a very good performance in a transitional season...

This “Pep style’ has run its course as far as I can see . It’s actually making English football boring .
City for example , got what they deserved this afternoon . They were so poor and almost refused to play forward . Teams like Southampton, and nearly every football team in Britain , including my lot want to play five a side keep ball and just won’t play forward quickly. Like it’s better to keep the ball in our own half rather than go direct
dare I say it but when Pep quits, hopefully teams will stop trying to copy this nonsense and start playing more direct .Pep had huge success and did so much for the game but the need for lemons like Russell Martin have grown obsessed with possession almost more than goals. City are proving that teams have the answer to this style of play now
I realise this is a bit of a sweeping statement but hopefully this possession for possessions sake will die out a little and the excitement will return to English football as at the moment it’s pretty bloody dull.

it's almost like anyone could be successful if they've got a Rodri in midfield.

Completely losing the plot because you've lost a midfielder to injury is nuts.

can’t argue with his win record but just watched that derby and can’t believe how defeated he looks. He’s absolutely disintegrated in a few months.
