Oatcake not happy again (at us again)

Sunderland rarely soldout in the Premier league except when playing the mags. Even against Chelsea Man Utd and the big teams it often didn't sellout. Football has changed now too, its very expensive to go to games these days. The stadium is too big. Would still average over 40,000 in the prem though.

To answer your last question, there are more fans now than there used to be from Sunderland areas that now follow the mags. That's what happens when a team becomes moderately successful and consistently wins games of football.
Depends which seasons you refer to. When we went up with Reidy, that season, there were regular sell outs, 48 or 46,000 depending on segregation. It went down in our relegation scraps, but still a lot bigger than a lot of more successful teams. Like now, half the Premier would love the support we have, home and away.

I always go on the basis of an extra 10,000 if in premier league, well that’s for us anyway. The amount of kids etc that want to see Premier league football these days is far greater than in the 90’s when I grew up, I just wanted to watch Stoke no matter what division ( I need sympathy) but kids today are different. I blame sky TV. lol.

I remember there being 47,000 in the ground for a Monday night match on Sky against Everton and Everton only brought a few hundred. SAFC were mid table at the time.

I'd say it would sell out just about every match for the first couple of seasons and then after the novelty had worn off, averaging 43/44,000. Not that it matters and we're a long way off a team that can finish above the bottom three in the top flight.

You don’t need to shudder to think. We are just a developing team which is improving. If and it’s a big if we get promoted we will be stronger and will sign more players. Yes we are unlikely to stay up but we can certainly compete as the likes of Ipswich and Leicester are. And if we don’t you don’t want to spend to much time worrying about it now.
Didn't say I worried. Too long in the tooth and hardened by sixty years of ups and downs for that.

Thoroughly deserved that win yesterday and it could have easily been more.

It was a bit end to end in the first 20 or so mins but overall we were the better side and should have really scored more than our 2 goals.

I really like the stoke keeper (was also excellent at Rotherham) to Korean and Japanese lad were tidy and i thought cannon did ok albeit not carrying much of a goal threat.

The lad at the back for them (Phillips?) was utter shite

serious question, would Sunderland sell out completely in premier league if go up or have they lost a few young fans to the Saudi team? Not taking the piss there but I have wondered this.
If we can sell c40000 tickets to play teams like stoke who don't seem to have changed much from the Rory delap long throw days and teams like Pompey and hull, I'm pretty sure we can get a few 1000 more fans if we are going to play Liverpool / man u / arsenal etc every week.

Stoke had some decent player on the ball and occasionally looked a threat. Koumas was tidy, Cannon a handful and one or two others caused us problems, especially on the flanks.

That said, they were just about the poorest defensive side I've seen this season and were totally reliant on their keeper to keep the score down. They invited pressure and were porous generally. Roberts, Isidor, Watson and Mayenda all missed the target from guilt edged chance, then the keeper made good saves from Isidor x2 and Watson off the top of my head. They couldn't have complained if we'd scored five or six.

Aren't you a Leeds fan?

Obsessed with attendances, those lot.

No offence taken.

I hate this ‘stadium too big ‘ rubbish. Why does it need to be sold out every week, that just creates a situation where some fans particularly those that arent as well off can’t get to a game. The size of our stadium is just fine and allows for the next generation of fan to experience a live game, utterly ridiculous to want a stadium without the ability to welcome these people.
I’ve always thought this, if you sell out every week it means your stadium is too small.

A 95th minute equaliser today that very few of their fans on there are happy with, as it means their manager hangs on for a bit longer.
