Oatcake not happy again (at us again)

The lad Million Manhoef has a quality first name and I think he played the ball for their goal. Good player and when he was subbed I was happy with that. Think Stoke have some dangerous players and should finish top half but....coach will probably get binned. Thought we played well enough and had the deserved winner with a nice little deflection. Hope Salis and Poveda will be back in training this week and give the squad a boost.

Strange team Stoke. Decent going forward, awful at the back with the exception of the keeper.
There was so much space at the back it was mental, exemplified by our equaliser.
They’re not the worst team to come up here, although the margin of our victory could have easily surpassed the 4 goals v Sheff Wed if we had taken more of our fantastic chances.
FotMob has us having created 5 big chances and missing the lot!

Stoke had some decent player on the ball and occasionally looked a threat. Koumas was tidy, Cannon a handful and one or two others caused us problems, especially on the flanks.

That said, they were just about the poorest defensive side I've seen this season and were totally reliant on their keeper to keep the score down. They invited pressure and were porous generally. Roberts, Isidor, Watson and Mayenda all missed the target from guilt edged chance, then the keeper made good saves from Isidor x2 and Watson off the top of my head. They couldn't have complained if we'd scored five or six.
Sunderland rarely soldout in the Premier league except when playing the mags. Even against Chelsea Man Utd and the big teams it often didn't sellout. Football has changed now too, its very expensive to go to games these days. The stadium is too big. Would still average over 40,000 in the prem though.

To answer your last question, there are more fans now than there used to be from Sunderland areas that now follow the mags. That's what happens when a team becomes moderately successful and consistently wins games of football.

Aren't you a Leeds fan?

Obsessed with attendances, those lot.

Ahhhh. Here he is. Which team are you claiming to support now?

Claimed he was a Dutch fan. Then a Portsmouth fan. Then a Leeds fan and now he’s back to Sunderland.

@Keith S30S why isn’t @Peace got a perma ban by now?
Never forget @Peace posting history

Hello, I'm new to this board and a Dutch Sunderland fan. Good Afternoon to you.

What is success for England in this world cup? Surely winning in Qatar after a semi final and final. England has proven to be one of the world's best teams in the last 4 years. Now one step further? It is possible.

England had a poor nations league (rubbish competition) and have little form but manager has a good record it comes to the major tournaments. Teams can just grow in tournaments after a win and confidence. Hopefully your manager has learnt from his mistakes in recent tournaments.

I see many English people are negative, but why?

You have a great squad. Defence may be a issue sometimes and controlling possession some times but some of the best attackers in the world. Kane, Foden, Bellingham, Mount, world class players. With these players, there is always a chance. Some luck is needed of course, especially in knockout games, but England do have the players to win the world cup.

I understand Penalties can be an issue for the English media, but no matter what penalties is always about luck. England beat Colombia and Switzerland on Penalties before Italy.

I understand the managers tactics sometimes but the players need to step up in big moments too.

England CAN win this world cup.

I think your manager has learnt his lessons from the Italy loss being too negative. I also think the players are to blame not always the managers. Players need to be brave.

England will get out the group stages and then probably play us or Senegal in the last 16. Van Gaal has done well so far but this isn't a Dutch team of 2010 and 2014 and will be beaten by teams such as England France Spain most likely in my view. Last 16 for us.

England likely to play France or Denmark in quarter finals and France missing pogba and kante so England can beat these teams. France have the world cup winners curse. France full strength maybe not but without pogba and kante England beat find a way to win.

In the semi finals, you can really dream and its 50/50. There is no outstanding team this world cup.

England has now regained its respect on the international stage and are feared as a top team in the world.

Prediction?

I think England surprises their fans again and go very far.

I think England get to the world cup final, before losing to Argentina.

But England CAN win it all.

Sunderland fans should be pleased being a top half championship club.

If you were as big as your fans think you are then some rich sugar daddy would buy your club but there isn't anyone.

I think you have a fantastic chance of going up and will easily fill the SOL every week , but you will have to invest massively to stay there by bringing in quality players .

Totally deserved the win yesterday only a fool would say otherwise, so onwards and upwards
Sadly we wont invest enough on the gamble to stay up and in fiscal terms that might be a good thing but im not an accountant, i'm a fan who for once wishes dashed hopes and missed opportunities was a thing of the past !In truth a promotion to the prem every 3-4 years as a minimum could be seen as a model for sustainability but as i said i'm a fan and i want more!
Freeman made a catalogue of errors.....
Do you have a coat?

Leeds have never ever had 40k in their history yet slags off our support 😂

Their defence was very inconsistent in how they set up I thought. At times they’d squeeze in their defensive and midfield line and made it difficult for us to find space to get a shot off. Several times though they’d then all sit off us. Both our goals came off when they did that. Did think they shifted from defence into an attack very quickly too and they’d some decent players who looked dangerous going forward. Half decent manager or the current one a change in play would see them

Absolutely right. I shudder to think what even the likes of Wolves would do to us playing as open as we played yesterday. You were surprisingly decent with a clear game plan which didn't quite come off.

Is there something wrong with you. I'm being serious.

I always go on the basis of an extra 10,000 if in premier league, well that’s for us anyway. The amount of kids etc that want to see Premier league football these days is far greater than in the 90’s when I grew up, I just wanted to watch Stoke no matter what division ( I need sympathy) but kids today are different. I blame sky TV. lol.
We live in Staffordshire, the kid plays football on a Saturday and a Sunday. We just watch whenever it’s convenient which isn’t often, so the league we’re in and the opposition we watch isn’t too relevant.

I must admit that watching a match on TV has become the easy option, especially with the atrocious kick off times. I don’t look forward to sitting in a car for about 5 hours on a day off. It was easier for us to attend Bristol city away last December than to travel to a home match.

Found it quite amusing that they started a Sunderland is a shit hole chant, almost like they forgot they were from Stoke.
Yeah it’s the same as when our fans do it , it maybe works when you’re from somewhere nice but clubs like us, Boro, Stoke, Hull etc do it just makes us look embarrassing

You don’t need to shudder to think. We are just a developing team which is improving. If and it’s a big if we get promoted we will be stronger and will sign more players. Yes we are unlikely to stay up but we can certainly compete as the likes of Ipswich and Leicester are. And if we don’t you don’t want to spend to much time worrying about it now.

It was always going to be inconsistent going with the youngest team in the Champo. That's what you get with bairns.

Unlike last season though, even with draws and a rare defeat, we are always looking to win and capable of winning, and most importantly, you can see that relection is taking place to correct things.

Simply by insisting that the wingers use the outside had a huge impact yesterday and the transition into attack was so much quicker yesterday.
