Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

They are not. risking his career like. He’s been around the 1st team for ages now, he first made the bench almost 2 years ago and I think travelled with them before that. Ideally he would have come off the bench a few more times but this is a massive chance for him and he’s doing well.
I thought he’d be coming off the bench this season and by the end of season be staking his claim for next. It’s not ideal he’s playing week in week out. He gets a few bad games coinciding with us getting beat a few and it won’t do his confidence much good.

Like I say I rate him, that was before he started with the first team.

Why would you think that though? Based on what? He's had years of development and this is the thought process of people after seeing him after two starts. I just dont get it.
Nothing to do with him or his performances, I just don’t like to get carried away with the hype when it’s a young winger or striker because they tend to stand out at youth levels. We’ve had lots of lads who looked like world beaters but couldn’t make the step up.

Obviously I’m delighted Tommy’s looking like the real deal. It’s probably much better for the youngsters joining the first team now than it used to be because they’re coming into a young side and have more faith shown in them.

I thought he came out of Friday with a lot of credit. This after a few appearances of looking way off it. Playing as he did and being as direct as he was will boost his confidence too.

Paul Atherton OBE. He played Schoolboy County cricket in the same team as Ian Cranson (Ipswich FC).
One of the best GK performances ever at Roker.
Well done kidder. I’d still like to see our wingers swapping sides every now and then. Though unless it’s done every game it looks like an admission of failure and we’ve no chance of selling a winger on if he has to pop over to his natural side to have an affect on the game in todays market.

But has scored, hit the post and taken 3 really dangerous corners. God help the league when he does improve. I get what your saying, he's clearly not reached his peak and makes the sort of mistakes most 18 year olds would at this stage. But to say he's nowhere near seems a proper over reaction.

I'd say he's currently our best FIT option. Who else gets in ahead of him? Once the squad is all fit then fair enough he drops out to play from the bench.

I’ll add that his positional sense is not there yet (that comes with experience) he is weak and he drifts out of games, so I do get it when people say he isn’t ready…but all those things will improve with experience

Exactly. I think it's really unfair though to be slating a kid at 18 who is being picked because we don't have another option. Would people honestly prefer Rusyn or Bennette out there for the past 5 or 6 games?
