You may not have heard of this. I hadn't till last week.

Apparently Hampshire are playing in it. Another non-descipt T20 league. I wonder how many players want to be there.

There are 4 more teams- One each from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Guyana (where the tournament is being held) and Australia.

This could be the future for county teams if more teams are purchased with overseas money like Hampshire. I pray this doesn't happen.

Now Hampshire are Indian controlled , could they forsake the English summer , to play as a franchise around the world ?

The argument will no doubt be that the county will make a lot of money out of tournaments like this.

The reality is that very little will be going in Hampshire's own bank account.

Surely Hampshire see this as an early pre season tournament. Looking at their squad, they haven’t really got a lot of franchise names

The money they are getting all of them do.

The money Hampshire are getting us almost 10 times what they earn in a county championship season.

So everybody wants to be there it's the way forward scrap the county game and international leagues with TV coverage is coming at last.

Pensioners now have wetherspoons to hang around all day for 7 hours instead of county cricket anyway.

I know his writing isn't to everyone's taste but a good insight into how global politics, ie India & Modi plus Russia & Putin, have inserted themselves into cricket. And as he says, the players are little more than pawns in it all. Hope the link works, I'm not exactly a tech expert!

As the daft poster above suggests that there is s group of people that would prefer to only play with them selves.

They will try to get this GSL to be a hit and thus invite all the IPL Co owned teams from South Africa, USA, UK etc for a circle jerk.

If that's what turns you on carry on. Let the rest of us enjoy Cricket for what it's supposed to be.
