Borthwick

Not a massive surprise. Decent captain but not sufficiently so to warrant picking him over McKinney, Gay etc.

2nd Xl captain and mentor. I think they will be serious about him joining coaching staff if he signs a new contract.
He has a 2 year contract extension.

Yeah definitely we had to manufacture him into the side last year as opener at times, which just didn't work.

Then he didn't have a good season with the bat full stop, 356 at 19.77.

Shame for him it's effectively the end of his first XI playing career, but good luck to him in a new coaching role.

Hopefully he can help produce some more batsman from the Academy. As the second XI looked pretty thin on the ground last season!

It's a shame really, he was so good at one stage of his Durham, maybe the most dependable batsman we had at one stage. I always thought he was excellent in a run chase in the timing of his innings. However, something happened, maybe he got the batting yips, but whatever it was he was never the same on his return from Surrey and, maybe his decline started at Surrey.
Anyway, I'm very pleased he has found a new role, in my book he deserves it, and I wish him all the best.

Superb news.
Set up in the 2nds last season was very weak and not a great place for youngsters to develop. Scott will be the ideal choice to strengthen that XI and given his playing experience at the club,as well as being a local lad,is the ideal choice as the leader and mentor of our academy products.
Batting coach Hilditch has left the club so there is also a vacancy for Head batting coach. Has Stoneman been fixed up since leaving Middlesex?

Age, dulled reflexes exposing weakness in his back foot game. Frustrating as I feel he could have done more to fix his technique or focused on his bowling. He was a good captain under Campbell but you can't pick specialist batsmen averaging 25 in div 1.

You were constantly slagging his captaincy off

Feels like a great move both for him and the club, I hope it works out.

Whilst he wouldn't command a place in the first XI anymore, not many sides can boast a reserve top order bat of the quality of Badger.
