1st TEST :: New Zealand v England

Carse has been exceptional in an England shirt.

Looking like a comfortable England win barring an absolute disaster. I wasn’t expecting that tbh.

Don’t want to sound as if I’m not giving the lads credit but it feels like New Zealand have beaten themselves more than anything. I’m not sure I’ve seen a team put down more catches than that in a Test.
There's undoubtedly a positive atmosphere engendered but Carse has been involved for quite a while but his improved consistency seems to have coincided with Jimmy's involvement.

Well I took Woakes name in vain and he came up trumps.

The Williamson wicket was the key and it was a beauty.

Carse bowled magnificently again.

On New Zealand they've been crap for a while. Why the India series was such a shock. Will take the gifts they offered us in both first innings.

Really liking our Carse is performing mind, another player on county stats and form alone may have not been picked.

Who this regime is once again getting the best out of.

England performing really well here.
Absolutely, I'm shocked. I'd never have taken Carse if it had been up to me. But ....... the proof is in a different pudding.

It's probably the best I've seen Carse bowl with the red ball, including for Durham. He always had a habit of bowling at least one boundary ball every over but for England it feels like he's not trying to bowl as fast as possible, which has given him more control.

Sick of Woakes only performing at home like ;)
To be fair,New Zealand conditions, cricketwise, are as near as you'll get to English conditions.

Which begs the question, why wasn't that issue addressed earlier? Probably due to our leader Mr Key 's mantra "Just bowl as fast as possible,it doesn't matter if you go for runs".
Suspect Jimmy has advised Carse otherwise.

Aye it’s been a strange performance from them. First gifting Bashir four wickets on day 1 with the pitch doing nothing for the spinners then all the dropped catches in our innings.

The next two tests should be competitive if they can sort their act out.
They're just gracious hosts marra. Proper sound the Kiwis like, making us feel right at home.

Don't worry, they'll be back on it next test.
Shows we weren't getting the best out of Carse.
Riverside needs to have a harder wicket imo.

NZ wickets aren't hard. He seems to have developed a wicket taking ball that nips in and is using variation intelligently.
