Can see Stokes/Mccullum having 2nd thoughts on Cox from what they saw in West Indies and shoehorning Bethell into the side and being able to justify Pope's continued selection by having him as WK

Pope needs backing this series for me

He’s scored 6 100s at number 3, he’s too hit or miss but it’s a role nobody else what’s to do. Everyone praises Brook but he moved to 3 in the ashes and Lasted one innings.

Giving pope captaincy was a really bad idea just let him focus on batting

If he has a shocker then they may need a rethink for India but he deserves this series

He’s done a lot better than most on here would have you believe

Top 7 picks itself.

I’m just not sure on Bashir, I get the potential but I thought he was really poor in Pakistan

At the same time they don’t fancy leach in Australia so I get the logic of getting someone ready. It’s really tricky balance

Carse, Atkinson and Potts would be my attack

They need to give Potts the new ball, not first or 2nd change.

I remember Lyon having a really poor series in India when he was early into his career and like all good spinners he learned from it and kept developing his game.
Hope Bashir does the same

Bethel a shoe in as he is a keen and good golfer for a good career under Stokes. Shame Hain hates golf otherwise we would have the best number 3 for the last decade but hey ho Pope loves his golf.

He has to deliver a lot more consistently. England can’t rely on Root for big tons, if we are to beat India and Australia , pope has to deliver big style

Not really bothered about this series but hopefully he will deliver at least 250 runs across the games

Yeah for sure. All I’d say is he’s batting where nobody else wants to

Brook gets a lot of praise but bats in the best position, he was moved to 3 in the ashes and lasted 1 innings as he was so bad
 
Pope is not good and never will be so many flaws in his technique. He’s a very poor test player and has had more than enough chances.

In the past we did not give players enough chances but he’s had change after chance and failed he’s not suddenly going to blossom after this many test matches.

Hain should be in the ODI side that being said!

Also as much as it's a bit of a running joke now amongst the negative side of England fan base. McCullum throwed petrol on the fire to an extent when he told us how good Cox was at Golf. Rather than addressing he's only kept in 6 FC games!

Yeah fair point on white ball. Also nobody will ever make me change my mind that bairstow should not be opening the batting in at least the t20, what’s happened I don’t understand

I can guarantee that was deliberate words by McCullum, he also said similar about Jimmy when he was late for Pakistan. They’re not idiots they know what’s being said

Like people can disagree with selection, it’s fine, but the whole golf thing is strange. Ben Foakes is good mates with Ben Stokes, he got him to invest in his sports/business thing, but if you read online you’d think he was dropped because of golf and not being “in the crowd”

Like I literally think the opposite. He got more caps than he deserved as he was mates with Stokes. He isn’t quite good enough that’s the reality

Look at his recent run of scores does not know where his off stump is. The brain fade dismissals in Pakistan and if the ultimate plan is to regain the ashes he averages 15 v Australia and 34 is a career average not good enough!
