Chris Rigg

It’ll be the summer other teams will be after him, especially if we don’t go up.

I’d be asking the same as Leeds got for Archie Gray, which was near £40m.
Was going to say this. £40m for Gray set a minimum benchmark. There’d likely be strong competition for his signature so we should get a premium

Clarke went for too little compared to other recent sales, however down to 2 years on contract, not signing a new one and only Ipswich ready to spend we got a good as deal as possible. Feel Rigg or Jobe would be a different beast

The club won't sell either while we are making a serious challenge for promotion. The amount of money in the premiership (and parachute payments) is astronomical to what we have available to us now.

I think he’s worth more than gray

Rigg is just 17 and playing week in week out in centre mid

I suppose it’s a testament to grays ability that he played right back when a natural centre mid, so not knocking him.

But again it’s all out of our hands, stop speculating on fees and enjoy the both of them.

I spoke to his Uncle in Hebburn sauna, and he said Riggy loves it at the club. Also said, if we do sell him it’ll be the club pushing it, that’s how much he loves it here.

I’m not expecting him to stay forever, but I think we’ll keep him until he’s at least 20-21, especially if we get promoted.
Great to hear

The what price speculation gets on my nerves

Let’s try and keep the lad as long as possible, I do think he will outgrow us at some point and good luck to him when he does
But for now, let’s just enjoy his talent and cherish him as a Sunderland player that loves playing for us

If he doesn't sign a new contract in the summer then I think some will be disappointed by how much we sell him for.

We’re going up, if he doesn’t sign a new contract I still think we’ll get 40 million for him such is the lunacy of the premierleague.
Got to say though, it’s an absolute pleasure watching the lad play this season. Enjoying it while it lasts as he’s destined for the very top

Be stunned if he went anywhere in January
He won't even go anywhere in the summer. Under contract for a while and even if a massive offer came in for him, the buying club probably wouldn't be able to play him so his progress would be stunted. Mark my words , he will be at SAFC for a few years yet, and he will captain the club. If we go up and stay up he will be here even longer.

There is more chance of Jobe going down the Jude route of moving abroad like Jude did as it is a family run thing and it worked for his brother. Rigg is a North East lad close to his family and has just turned 17. He is level headed and who does he go to in this Country and actually get's game time? That is what he needs and is what our selling point is. If we go up we suddenly move to a way higher bargaining point. Stewart left us and has done nowt (Injuries) Clarke has left us also for another prem club and is not even starting games . Rigg has his whole career ahead of him, and will be a superstar barring injuries as will Jobe, but there isn't a rush. If we go up them 2 in the prem together with anther years experience will be class for us.

Rigg will captain SAFC before he leaves anytime soon. Mark my words

I'm considering going to a betting store and placing a bet on Chris Riggs' selection for the England World Cup in 2026. Wonder what's odd?

it will be VERY difficult to keep him. Depends if he sign for a longer contract. I cant gaureenttee for this to happen.

I think Rigg would prefer to stay here for at least a few more year and play first team football. The problem is going to come when the big clubs start throwing big money at us. I've not seen another young player grabbing so much attention for a long time.

I’ve tried to raise this point on here loads of times but people are convinced he’s going to go for Archie gray money etc. it just won’t happen imo like

If he signs a new contract then he’ll probably pull them sort of figures but if not we’ll be lucky to get 20/25 million for him as the other clubs are in the driving seat when it comes to negotiations.

Would you take that?

Football Insider need to make their mind up, either we're determined to ward off interest or we're setting a price tag.

These two articles are both within two days of each other ffs.

I think around that mark is probably what we will end up with like. Can't see us playing hardball like Leeds will have with gray. Just look at the Clarke sale and we probably promise players they can go.

Explain how other teams are in the driving seat if we hold 2 years on him plus we are still entitled to proper compensation even if he runs that contract out due to his age

If it’s a minor knock, it’s best he’s not involved. I think it’s in his interests that his playing time is kept to a reasonable level. He has a lot of physical development to go and the championship is unforgiving in the winter months

This, not the worst thing in the world if its just a minor thing to protect him ahead of another 3 games in 8 days
