Musings on the Pakistan Tour

scotch

Striker
Biggest positives from this tour for me are;

Carse looks like a test match bowler and very decent number 8/9 batter.

Potts showed he has enough about him for overseas matches.

Atkinson showed his 100 was no fluke and that he is a good quick workhorse bowler, hit a line and length at good pace.

Ahmed popping up with some wickets again

Brook got a triple hundred, 1st in my lifetime by an Englishman.

Root getting double hundred.

England scoring 800+

Negatives -

Don't think Stokes has been fit and then has been poor in his captaincy today to contribute this dire position.

Pope needs taking out of his bulletproof box.

Crawley really can't play spin.

Bashir and Leach both been comfortably outbowled by Pakistans spinners - one has no control and the other no variety.

Brook needs to learn a front foot game against spin over the next 2 years before we hit Asia again.

The pitch shenanigans from Pakistan has left a bad taste but there should be some form of home advantage in tests

Probably a better assessment than the selectors!

Positives

Pope's handicap down to 6.8
Stokes's longest drive at 13th
Carse nearest pin at 8th
How dare you think that unless your golf handicap is under 10 and your body is full of tattoos to give you something to talk about you won't be picked for England.

How 8 of this team are still here is amazing.

While actual talent like Ahmed can't get a game because he doesn't play golf I will bowl joe instead he is my friend scenario ends.

For as long as I can remember, England teams have a batting failure/collapse in one test , then drop/ change 2 or 3 bowlers for the next test , leaving the batting lineup unchanged.
Rinse and repeat.
Crawley and Pope should have been dropped. Stokes has done nothing since he came in. Hardly bowled and contributed very little.
They changed a winning team after the first test and blew it.

A very good summary. As I can't comment on the match thread, thanks for a thread to give me a chance

Neither this pitch or the last pitch were the minefields our batsman seem to think they were. Our first innings scores in both games left runs out there but they blame the pitch instead.

They really need to look at themselves and their inability to play spin as barely any wickets in either test have been them got out. Lucky for them the next tour in Asia is not till 2027.

But the issue is we just don't have the greed/mentality to score big regularly to try and kill games.

We saw it all summer and sides couldn't take advantage in the first 5. But they have now in 3 out of the last 4, and baring a miracle from somewhere it's 3 losses from 4.

I do fear for the Ashes if they can't find the ruthlessness they need to show. As at the minute they just pat themselves on the back like they did after that first innings yesterday which was a good 100 short.
