*~*~* Luton v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

I don't like to see any keeper time wasting, hate it when others do it, so can't exactly enjoy it when we do it.

Sort of thing that bites you on the backside when the ref adds 10mins on at the end
The lad had been clattered and was obviously in pain. There was no licence shown by the ref who overall was awful. In similar circumstances I've seen the ref just look and point to his watch.

What ‘rules’ are they like?
VIOLENT CONDUCT

Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.

In addition, a player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible.

there you go, you learnt something, congratulations. Onien should have been red carded for kicking Patto.

Wow. Sensational performance from a young team with the odds stacked against them.

Officials were hopeless. The physicality of Luton was time machine stuff. Might as well have retained their plastic pitch as they never use it. Everything launched into the air, percentages stuff.

I thought the game had evolved and refereed properly that would have been a much easier win against a side with limited footballing ability. Shout out to Regis who couldn't have ever faced opponents of that ilk before but got it tactically spot on.

Giving how poorly the game was officiated it was almost inevitable that the game would end in a brawl. Had the referee clamped down of Luton's physicality we might have seen more than the two pieces of quality we provided.

Funny. The Luton forum is full of people talking about how bad the ref was too - but they reckon he favoured us.

Football supporters see what they want to see.

Aye I’ve learned something alright. I’ve learnt that someone really does thinks there are ‘rules’ that govern football & that this ignorance actually makes him feel superior.😁
I’d be grateful if u could advise me exactly where these ‘rules’ originate from and the specific reference wherein this rule exists.
Oh, and what colour is the sky on this planet where there are ‘rules’ of football?

They'd obviously criticise him due to the disallowed goal. In reality had he refereed the game properly they'd have never been in the game. It was testament to Sunderland's quality that two fantastic goals were scored. The rest of the game was a right off. Enjoyed watching the lads triumph in the face of adversity but as a spectacle it was like something from the 80's.

I'm confused.

How can you use "excessive force or brutality" without making contact?

Or is "regardless wether contact is made" in case some player has mastered Darth Vaders death grip?

They seem to think they had two “clear” penalties denied as well - the Hume challenge near the end and Connolly’s alleged hand ball at the death. Personally, I think that’s nonsense and clutching at straws - but again, football supporters tend to see games and incidents through their own team’s lens.
We see 3 points.
Correct.

Yes he is. I think we immediately looked worse when he went off, he has so much presence and drags the CBs about, just generally a bother.

I think Mepham and Ballard will be our best pair long-term, but they might think we have too many CBs once they are all fit, and won't want to spend money on Mepham. Alese I rate highly, he has a high ceiling if he can get over these injuries. But people forget Seelt, I really like him, he's got really good positioning and interceptions from what I've seen of him, he's also massive at 6'3".

We have Triantis too if he kicks on and isn't turned into a CDM.

O'Nien is having a good season but he's older and I think he'll get benched in favour of the starlets, who these owners will want to give game time and develop. I think he may even be moved to CDM as we are short there, he might also have to fill in as a fullback if Hume or Cirkin get hurt.
It alese comes back the same player we have very good cb options. He was immense prior to injury

Chris Iwelumo only makes 3 mistakes on the highlights 😂

First he says superb touch by Morris. Luke O'Nien actually took the pace out of the ball and it just hit him and dropped.

Then he says never offside. Aye well if you completely discount the Luton player who's 3 yards offside moving towards the ball and trying to head it then maybe not.

Then he says Hume fouls in the build up to the 2nd goal. It's a beautiful sliding tackle.

Bitter Jock nobhead.

He doesn't say it's a foul from Hume.

Their grounds in a weird location, I walked round in circles three times trying to get back to the car.
On the second lap I ended up back at the ground about half an hour after the game finished, I figured if I went back along past their mainstand I'd be in the right direction. As I tried to get along there I ended up walking under the mainstand, quite a few stewards and staff still around but no one stopped me, I started seeing signs for Directors box and walked passed the kitchen then came to a dead end with a sign saying "players & officials only" I was outside the fecking dressing rooms

Just got back, superb night, away end class, especially after he game had ended, fans players and staff loving it, took ages to get out, presume we had to wait for the wife that owns number 96 to open her front door for us to get back out.

Lads answered some questions tonight, I doubt Regis has come up against many teams that play like Luton

Weathered the storm, they tried and failed to blow us away the first half, no way they could keep up that work rate for 90.

With the technical ability we have in the team, always going to have chances.

Defended brilliantly, for all their pressure will limited them to chances.

Can’t wait for Saturday!!
