*~*~* Luton v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

Even though the name CHRIS IWELUMO has been typed literally 30+ times on this very thread, there’s still people asking who the co-commentator was

A nerve wracker. The idea that their 'goal' should have stood is nonsense. The lad in the middle nearly connected, Patterson could hardly ignore him. Two classy goals, a lovely cameo from Connolly who might have scored if he'd got into the game. We invited trouble, some sloppy play, switched off for their goal and I am not sure why we kept passing back to Patterson under pressure when he was struggling. Still, some gritty performances and a brilliant win.

We would have buckled under all that physical pressure in the past. That wasn't a pretty game but we past the test, a massive massive win for the lads.

It’ll be as important for future games as it is for the three points.

Important that this team believe/see that they can stand up to that kind of physical pressure, soak it up and still find a way to win.

There’ll be more grinding games like this through the winter months. Especially away from home. Hopefully they can draw on the performance tonight when they need to.

Aye. Though they did hit the bar twice and had a goal chalked off (I think wrongly, but can see the opposite side of the argument - the rule is really subjective as was seen the other day with City). Whilst we restricted them, we also gave them a lot of their openings with some really panicked and headless chicken play in the first half.

But they ground the points out. Give me that any day of the week than dominating the ball and coming away with zip
Their style largely depends on getting the bounce of the ball and getting a lenient ref. They push and shove and kick in the middle to stop anyone playing round them and they rely on the shells into the box.

They played that system well today, I thought the ref let them away with a lot but in the end they dont have quality like Rigg and Mundle.
