Retirement

I'm 53 and doing everything i can to either retire or semi retire at 55. Really cant get my heed round people who say they need to work cos they will be bored. Weekend comes and i cant fit into 2 days what i would rather be doing than working.
A workmate started the process a year before he retired. I'm going to do the same
What do you mean transferring between providers. Was this just a choice to put multiple into one pot?

How much did you transferr? I transferred one pension into another a while back and it was almost instant, but it was only around £12k.
£290K, £60K and £10K, the £290K element was apparently paid to new provider yesterday, £10 and £60K about 2 weeks ago (completed), but all initiated start of July

Moving from say Prudential to Aviva, still takes ages
so were you moving your pension to a different provider ?
yes, 3 funds with 2 different providers all moved to a single pot with a new provider
Some big changes planned in your retirement there mate? ;)
Continue travelling the world till I have next to fuck all left; but thats what I have done all my working life also. Cycle more, get the motorbike back on the road, go to even more gigs and hopefully get over to see some youth football to watch the talent coming through the ranks

Went back to work part time for a well-known high street retailer for what was advertised as 16 hours a week as much to give my liver a rest as owt else. Within a few weeks I wasn't doing the job or hours I applied for and doing a very physical job a strapping young lad would struggle to do and was being listed to do 45 hours a week. When I pointed this out and said I wasn't happy I was given veiled threats that this would affect whether I was kept on or not. I wrapped it up pretty quick.

Just summed lots what's wrong with the country. A power drunk inadequate under pressure from the poor decisions of the people who bought the business over the odds with debt (this might give you a clue to the company).

I know there's a few on here that have said they would go delivery driving for supermarkets etc but just to let you know that it's not as straightforward as you think.

Anyway, it's not all bad. I've just booked a holiday in Vietnam in November with the money I earned.
16 hrs shop floor colleague?

The role is any 4 days over 7 and may include overtime?

A colleague has recently retired, he’s one of those who thinks that he should be doing something.

He’s been convinced by a mate who owns a car sales business to drive cars to the new owners and then find his way home by train (paid for).

It sounds hideous to me, especially for someone over 60.

Hopefully he's in the same kind of position as me where he can tell them to shove it if it's not good for him.

A fixed three days with shifts of 5/5/6. Had to work one weekend day which I chose as Sunday cos I do a parkrun and have a season ticket so less likely to affect. Daft twats started listing me on Saturdays from the off and got upset when I said I wasn't turning up. Was listed as an online colleague for driving but like much of what they said pre-job was just a lie.

Definitely would recommend it. I retired at the beginning of this year aged 55, and don’t get bored at all. You never know what the future holds, so if you can afford it then why wait to do things you’ve always wanted to do. I’m loving the freedom of doing whatever I want each day.

Okay, so not the advert I've just seen on Facebook then, which was for B&M.

Nice one. Hoping all the ducks are in order come the next 16 months and dont like wishing my life away but absolutely cant wait, but at the very least i will probably just pick up the odd contract work if a feel i need a bit more money.

i currently have two pensions with different providers. also have my works pension. would it be better if i transfered the two pensions into my current work pension so all in one pot. have about 10k in each of the two

It is also a sign of being a good worker and management not realising that piling stuff on them is a really bad idea.

It has happened to me a few times where more and more has been piled on me. Even my first casual job. Every worker had to work Christmas Eve or New Years Eve, I put down for Christmas Eve and worker the longest shift of anyone, both opening and closing the pub, before heading up to the north east for a very tired Christmas. Popped back for a few of my post-Christmas shifts only to find I was the only Christmas person put down for New Years Eve too. “But Dave you are our best worker, when we are busy your work rate is amazing.” Not long after they had no work from me.

I had veiled threat and they even complained to me when I swapped shifts with someone who then called in sick.

Impossible to say from that. You need to compare the fees you are paying on the old pots with what you are paying on the current work pension. Likely the current pension will be lower if it is an auto enrollment compliant scheme and the others are not.

However on the flip side you need to see if there are any rights or benefits in the old scheme you would be losing.
