Retirement

Been retired 3 months now And f***ing loving every minute of it. Mind it helps having spent 6 weeks so far away on holiday😀

I still haven't had any pension paid as one has taken 3 months to transfer between providers and Capita are taking ages With my pit pension, but are due any time
Now

Signed on the Nash for 8 weeks whilst pension comes through, money for nowt.

If anyone is thinking of retiring and will be relying on your pension payment if you are transferring to another provider, i would advise anyone to start the process 6 months before you are sue to retire; especially it Tower Watson / Lifesight are your provider as they are f***ing useless

A workmate started the process a year before he retired. I'm going to do the same

Gerrin! You earned it,enjoy it.
What do you mean by that you've missed the boat?
Been overseas for years and didn't think about ISA till now so buying one a year starting now won't be worth it.
Looking for something else to put a lumper in and get a return.

Reckon 6 months is a decent guide to transfer funds, even longer.
Definitely from experience it takes time.

Enjoy the time. I am still adjusting however starting to finish off those projects on the house. Mrs (no) is going to start to reduce her hours.

I know so many that are still in the Corporate World and hating it. I don’t miss the stress and work bull shit that’s for sure.

Sensible mate.
I took a tax free lump sum to get me through whilst others were moved into a pot.
Took near on 9 months. Some quicker than others and lots more legislation and governance to get though now.

so were you moving your pension to a different provider ?

Having gone through the process of moving a few pensions from different providers into one definitely takes time.
So much box ticking with some providers quicker than others. Plenty of paperwork involved and questions around seeking pension advice etc. I was fortunate that I had a pension advisor that worked on it. Before anything was kicked off he did warn on the time it takes.
Good news it’s all done now.

Similar.

It’s bloody hard work !

And you are “ encouraged “ to use one of their advisors. One mush wanted £5000 just to transfer funds to another provider .

I did a couple of hours research and did it myself.

He was quite miffed when I told him the robbing little shit🤣

If you're a member of a trades union then you get free advice through many of them. I know Unite have pensions experts I can use anytime

How much did you transferr? I transferred one pension into another a while back and it was almost instant, but it was only around £12k.

Went back to work part time for a well-known high street retailer for what was advertised as 16 hours a week as much to give my liver a rest as owt else. Within a few weeks I wasn't doing the job or hours I applied for and doing a very physical job a strapping young lad would struggle to do and was being listed to do 45 hours a week. When I pointed this out and said I wasn't happy I was given veiled threats that this would affect whether I was kept on or not. I wrapped it up pretty quick.

Just summed lots what's wrong with the country. A power drunk inadequate under pressure from the poor decisions of the people who bought the business over the odds with debt (this might give you a clue to the company).

I know there's a few on here that have said they would go delivery driving for supermarkets etc but just to let you know that it's not as straightforward as you think.

Anyway, it's not all bad. I've just booked a holiday in Vietnam in November with the money I earned.

A colleague has recently retired, he’s one of those who thinks that he should be doing something.

He’s been convinced by a mate who owns a car sales business to drive cars to the new owners and then find his way home by train (paid for).

It sounds hideous to me, especially for someone over 60.

okay if you love driving but it'll be less than minimum wage

If it was for a high end car dealer it might be quite enjoyable I suppose. I had a car delivered by an old fella once who was doing exactly that (mine wasn't but he said he delivered a lot of exotic cars) and seemed to enjoy the job.

The beauty of taking jobs on when your retired is if they are shit you can walk away.
I tried a few before finding summit that gives me what I want, at the hours I want on the days I want.
Despite people saying there loads of jobs out there, it’s limited if you don’t want unsocial hours or weekends without pressure.
Loved delivering shopping for Morrisons but the hours were crap and a gaffer that made me work extra hours and every weekend, shook his hand and left with immediate effect.
