SOL expansion

To be fair it's still a 49k stadium. We just choose to lose 3k seats as they're not needed which pretty much sums up how much expansion we need.

Must say that's a bizarre outlook because there's 20% empty seats. I'm not sure how that's untapped demand.

Any and I meant any economics graph the supply is more than the demand.
Well, nit picking it never was 49K. But anyway extra corporate and better facilities is what we want in a medium to long term vision as that has to be based on being in premier league.

Not convinced me

I wasn’t really impressed when it happened originally

I find over the years outside the top clubs , clubs that extend , usually end up relegated a couple of years later

I’m also not convinced that safc could have a regular 50000 plus attendance at the prices it costs to attend football these days

It may happen for one or two games but v Oxford as an example ?
Well of you want to play the likes of Oxford forever we could even downsize. I and many others want more for the club on and off the pitch. Emulating other clubs and improving facilities AND adding capacity is the next step for ambitious owners.

Expanding the ground isn't ambition it's being deluded.

The club doesn't need an expansion to be successful (the definition of ambition).

It’s an established economic phenomenon.

Some people are put off if they can’t get their choice of seating area / sit with a group.

Those people are also likely to be less price-sensitive.

For example - a group of non-season ticket holders who fancy a day at the footy might be happy to pay £30-35 a ticket for a decent seat grouped all together.

Season tickets in the East or West stands are priced at a significant discount c.£250 I think to that.

This this this. Getting 2 or 3 seats together in the lower bowl can be a right pain. Especially decent seats (that i prefer). The upper section is almost as bad, with the club releasing blocks one at a time. If i cant get them, i dont go.

Maybe a bit off topic but id also add spur of the moment sales. Sometimes you finish your dinner on a saturday and fancy going to the match. If an expansion allowed us to bring back cash turnstiles, i think more would choose to go on the day, without having fuck around on the ticketing website.

I’m really not convinced that there is the demand for all of the extra corporate facilities that many are craving on this thread.

Did it sell out when we were last in the premier league ?

Also I’m skeptical that we’d regularly sell out 55,000, even in the PL, unless the tickets were very cheap which kind of the negates any advantage with the millions it would need in building costs.

One will not come without the other.
Can you imagine the pay back period if it was just an extension of seats. 20 games a year at about £25 per seat per game. Not going to happen.
However, if the ground is made bigger to create more corporate offerings and extra seats come along with it, then the capacity will increase with little risk.
55k in the Prem is a good target, given what will be happening in our city in the near future.
I’m optimistic.

Apparently, corporate is sold out this season, as in boxes. So, really, the only thing we actually need is them. But as I previously said, if they are putting additional boxes in the East Stand, with the loss of seats, they should put another tier on there, to make them up and increase them.

We are hovering around 40k at the top end of the championship.
I think Premier League football would attract the additional few thousand easily, and need more hospitality packages.
Our plan is to be a Prem club so we should plan for all aspects.
Plan for all aspects whilst exercising caution - if last season had gone another 5 or 6 games we'd have probably gone back to league 1. We've had a great start to this season and we have an exciting young side but I think we need to be reestablished in the Prem before we make the ground bigger. It's fine for the Championship IMO.

There’s always the “do nothing” option.

During that time we shall miss out on major concert tours, tournaments like Euros, international matches.
It’s either a race to the top or the bottom. I’d like to see us give it a go.

A/.,21o would we if the capacity was 37000!..why are leeds expanding to 53000?which coincidently matches their all-time league attendance. Its only because they have ambition!

Leeds sell out every week. We don't. In fact since the SoL was built it's probably been sold out for fewer than 5% of the fixtures we've played there. Expansion and more empty seats is the last thing we need.

If there's any spare money it needs invested in the team first rather than a load of seats that'll remain empty.

People have said that in the past, the city is changing and football is to a certain extent. We've been left behind by smaller clubs. Our facilities aren't as good as some would have you think. Everton, Luton and poss man United moving grounds and Leeds and villa amongst others improving theirs. We need to greatly improve the sol and capacity Is part if that. We're averaging 42k in the 2nd tier, If ran properly in the top flight the sky really is the limit for safc. Get ducks in a row now.
For once I fully agree with you
