SOL expansion

The only concern though is that ever since the 1950s we've always been a yo-yo club. Clubs that have 50 and 60 thousand capacities are usually solid Prem clubs with little risk of relegation. Attendances are solid now because there is a feeling that the club is building something and we have an exciting young team. But we were in financial trouble not too long ago and the way modern football is, this could happen again in the future. I think a packed-out 49k SOL is fine. Just my opinion though.
Agree mate but I think the cost isnt that high, relatively and (as we've been told on here) Berb bought all the steel for the south stand. So it should be relatively cheap to go to 55k, you could then nick some seats from the east stand and put more exec boxes in. So in effect 53k and much more corporate stuff.

Mags went down with big ground and west ham, by no means a nailed on prem side over the last few decades have almost 60k. We're limited on by the ambition or those in control.

We had a semi average team, I don't really think there was much of a good will factor, once Keane went. We then constantly struggled, apart from the 10th place. With a decent side we'd get 50k+ every other week, plus we'd have 3k+ away fans. Whether people like it or not, we'd not match the mag's crowds and that purely down to population size and catchment area.

If we got promoted this time round, unless we have some form of miracle, we'll very likely be going straight back down.

We are no-where near a mid table Premier League team. Obviously there's some on here who think Neil and Patterson should be starters for Liverpool though.

There's absolutely no business sense to expand the ground right now bar fantasies of what might happen and you don't run businesses on fantasies unless you want to turn into Darlington.

Broadly speaking though, clubs with massive grounds are Premier League regulars. Right now, we are a championship club and really there's no need for expansion. Realistically, we need to be in the Prem for a good few years, with a very exciting team before it should be even considered.

Tell that to leeds who are also extending / redeveloping. The only barrier is funding.

I could tell that to Leeds. But their reply would be that their current capacity is only 37,000 and for the past 5 years, their average attendances have pretty much been a sell out. They intend to increase capacity to around 53,000 which seems sensible, and only slightly higher than the SOL. I don't think increasing our capacity right now is the best move. Currently, it's big enough for our level and hopefully that will change if we get promoted.

People have said that in the past, the city is changing and football is to a certain extent. We've been left behind by smaller clubs. Our facilities aren't as good as some would have you think. Everton, Luton and poss man United moving grounds and Leeds and villa amongst others improving theirs. We need to greatly improve the sol and capacity Is part if that. We're averaging 42k in the 2nd tier, If ran properly in the top flight the sky really is the limit for safc. Get ducks in a row now.

Our corporate and even concourse for the average fans have dated badly.

The stadium was built when things were different, you couldn't get a pint at roker park and it wasn't expected for fans to turn up early

Would love to know if the club do have a plan for expanding concourses and Inproving corporate offerings. Unsure if this is something RAWA @Becs can ask at the next meeting as it comes up here often

And if so when can we epect to hear anything

It is a stick or twist moment, that's for sure (© Steve Bruce)
