One Day Cup Final - Glamorgan v Somerset

The fact it got reduced didn't help Somerset.

Glamorgan side was similar to their T20 side so was always going to be difficult if they got on top.

Canny effort by Somerset though. FTECB should be the main takeaway.

I said this on another forum

"ECB couldn't give a ****. I think every final since the Hundred has been on a sunday at Trent Bridge(this was wrong 2021 Thursday(2/3 days after semi), 2022 Saturday, 2023 Saturday)

A harder ground to get to than Lords for most counties in the country.

It's clear everything the ECB has done with the Hundred and the rest of the domestic game is to force counties into accepting IPL buyouts.

Relegate the CC season to April and September. Have their international white ball games in Autumn.

Play the blast over several months and stick barely any of it on TV. Make the one day cup secondary to the Hundred and effectively a second XI competition.

So counties make less money and then have to accept their IPL overlords generous offers."

Then to add to the what I said I'm baffled as to why this game couldn't have been played on saturday.

Notts surely could have hosted another game two days after their ODI, considering the semi's were in f***ing August and they had over a month to sort this.

But then lends itself to the ECB intent on f***ing over domestic cricket.
The ECB cover every single game live on TV via counties YouTube channels same with all county cricket every single ball of domestic county cricket is live in TV. What more do you want?
Start the t20 in May, get the finals day done in early June. Championship April, May, June, first week of July. Test matches second week of July to second week of August.

16.4 second week of August to last weekend of august. Then first week of September finish until end of September Championship

They may as well pack the fifty over in as the international team does not care a jot
So play T20 alongside the Championship??

Not a bad idea move all championship games to out grounds and make it a under 21 championship bit like 50/50 these days.

Like that idea.

Also possibility then of 10 team city franchised 20/20 to be played and totally get rid of the pointless Championship with your 2 paying spectators a day.

Also move 50/50 to all out grounds.

Interesting idea. ECB like this.

Somerset have been absolutely outstanding all season, to get as close as they have in three competitions should be praised to the hilt.

Really pleased though they kept the same squad for this than bringing players in as would not have been right

Yes but it's cost them when the format changed.

Glamorgan had pretty much their first choice T20 side out, they were only missing Labuschagne and Crane from their T20 side.

Shame as would have been a good 50 over match. Answers on a postcard why this game couldn't have been played on Saturday which ended up with fine weather.

Looks like there were fewer spectators here than at a normal county match which isn't surprising.

The whole English cricketing summer has felt flat in places. Test series against minor opposition didn't help.

The ECB need to have a serious look at the schedule but while the white elephant dominates August it's just going to get worse.

Just a shame they're a bunch of bottlers who drop their arsehole when a trophy is on the line.

Oh did I say shame? My bad. It's hilarious

Truly commendable especially squads in all formats are almost exclusively from their
academy.
As opposed to Trophy achieving by hoovering proven talent from other counties is rather a phyrric victory.

Simple. England were playing an ODI on Saturday and Sky wouldn’t put two major games on simultaneously. The weather, as everyone knows, is a complete lottery in this country and this time last year it was sunny and 30 degrees in places. It could easily have been the other way round: rain on Saturday and dry on Sunday and had they both been on the same day and rained off we’d be moaning that they should have been staggered. Much as I am not a fan, it’s not all the ECBs fault!

Reminder. What happened when Durham played Glamorgan at Trent Bridge in this same fixture three years ago?

Most fair sports people would say a club like Somerset to reach that far in all the competitions they have played in is a good achievement.

Where you laughing and think it’s hilarious guess that says more about you than owt else I guess

Somerset have played some excellent cricket this season and I agree very commendable.

Well it was a reserve day, a Monday, miles and miles from either county, in dreary weather that promised not to allow any play whatsoever, on a day where by rights our cricketers should be on a beach in Dubai or in a club in Vegas. FTECB.

I just wish I had been more on it this weekend, and got a train ticket to Nottingham! Would have been home for tea.

The last One Day Cup reserve day I attended was in 2007

Well it is the ECBs fault as the game should have been played in August and not over a month later.

Also shouldn't be a second XI competition either and have England players involved.

Mental take to defend them
