CC : Durham v Kent

Our final fixture of the 2024 season sees us entertaining @Twisted 's beloved Kent almost six months from our opening game against Hampshire (not that anyone saw anything of that one). Kent of course are destined to finish bottom of Division1 having accumulated only 85 points and one win all season. We are 5th on 158 points and of course are safe but it would take something extraordinary for us to overhaul Essex in 4th place.

Our visitors' top scoring batsmen are Bell - Drummond (853) and Compton (833) while leading bowler is Matt Parkinson on 31.In a strange quirk we will see the Parkinson twins up against each other for the second successive season in the final game at the Riverside only this time of course Callum will be playing for us.

No team news yet but hopefully Raine should be back for us and it was good to see Holder giving a good account of himself at The Oval in our otherwise forgettable defeat against the champions.

On a historical note, the last time we played Kent at the Riverside was in Division 2 in April 2017 when Matt Henry destroyed us with 12-73 in a comfortable 9 wicket win.

As I'm typing this its been raining since 8am and looks set to continue until Thursday night although Friday - Sunday looks better. Having said that it's nearly October so goodness knows how long it will take to dry up.

Anyway good luck to Durham and let's hope we can finish our campaign with a win.

I personally am absolutely gutted that they're getting relegated.

Surprised there’s no mention of Martin Saggers, Ben Harmison, Mark Davies , Jonathan Longley,Ollie Robinson or Gord’s brother Paul 🤔 Other cricketers are available. As the game nears I’m sure Big Norm, Brian Luckhurst and the MCC will feature in the conversation.

Don't forget Magic Mitch 🪄 Claydon

Not forgetting John Shepherd and Asif Iqbal.

What about the lesser known Ryan Davies . I’m sure some of the diehards will be racking their memory cells without resorting to Wiki 😀

What about the guy who took 2 catches as a sub fielder for England in the 1977 Ashes Test . 🤔😀

One of the most memorable home games against Kent was back in 1997 at Feethams when we hadn't won a Championship game since 1995. With two wickets to get and time running out in rapidly fading light David Boon was forced to come on and bowl his off breaks and managed to get both of them. The scenes that followed were as if as if we had won the title, the FA Cup and the Grand National.

1.I'd almost forgotten about him. Didn't he leave us and Somerset under a cloud?

2. Mark's dad I presume.

Gambling addiction iirc

Feels like autumn, has done for a couple of weeks admittedly but the weather this season has been as ‘cool’ as I can remember from a summer. Oddly enough we haven’t lost too much cricket - I haven’t fact checked that mind, just a hunch - but whilst previously I’ve been in the camp of making the cricket season as long as possible, I think this year I’m in the ‘we shouldn’t be playing cricket this late in the year’ camp.

As per though, I’ll try and make the most I can out of the last throws of the cricketing summer.

Yeah I think or heard that the first match of the season which was wiped out was the first one in years

So did he take 4 catches or did he take 2 catches in 2 tests? :?:

Old school cricket fans who have followed cricket locally and nationally for around over 50 years . Obviously both watched the successful Durham Minor Counties side and the DSL League.. 👍
