Tommy Conway - Mutants

He's essentially being shoehorned into the no 10 role at the moment. Needs to be given a run of games up front as Lath is out of form.
Haaland wouldn't score in that team when they insist on passing from touchline to touchline 30 yards from goal. No shots, no crosses. Bewildering play in the second half.

If they lose a few more then Carrick has to be at risk.

That was really poor from them yesterday, even when they brought the big lad on and last 5 had Clarke in our box they refused to stick a cross in.

As for Conway, was it him who missed the header the one time they did cross it? Other than that he was anonymous

In fairness both of them could have had a goal each in the 1st half. Conway definitely should have scored from a header early on in the game and Lath had that chance just before half-time, although it was probably more of a half-chance in comparison to Conways.

If you look at the stats we are creating chances and having shots on goal. Vs Preston we had 16 shots to their 5.

Completely off topic but you seem a sensible Boro fan.

Is Luke Ayling not a weak link in your team? The last couple times we played you he’s looked very easily beatable one-on-one.

I saw a lot of quality in your team and bench yesterday but Ayling looks way past his best.

Aye missed opportunities coming from chances to break but theres a clear pattern of where you struggle. A well organised rigid shape and you dont have the quality or the nous to play through it. As I said, all slow paced sideways and backwards play with no shots or crosses. Hard work for a CF to do anything when it's so pedestrian.

Ayling won us over last season when he was on loan. He chipped in with a healthy amount of assists and we fell in love with him as a character.

Defensively he has been inconsistent and struggles when up against pace and trickery. It won't surprise me if we're on the hunt for a younger RB in January.

Yeah I do agree although Lath didn't have an issue scoring goals for us last season whislst we adopted the same style of play. It's definitely been an issue for us this season. As I said feels like we're going to need to score the first goal if we want to win games at the moment.

I feel like that sums up the Championship at the best of times. We got caught out with that loads last season - miss chances then lose the first goal and lose the game. I think the added difficulty comes when sides know that you'll struggle to break down a side sitting in too because theres a clear DNA to denying you now.

I'm aware there's been more instances like Conways this season where the chance should have ended up in the net but didn't. You have to think it'll click against someone and they'll take a battering, every team has a day where everything goes in.

I thought he looked good on the ball - higher quality showing through - but looked a bit challenged defensively. Mundle is very quick & Ayling isn’t the level he once was, I suppose.

I thought it was a good game. I felt you need to work on a plan B if teams are squashing your - perfectly reasonable - Plan A

Thought it was one of the worst derby games in recent times to be honest. That 2nd half was tough to watch but to be fair your players stuck to the gameplan and were disciplined. We didn't have an answer to it.
