One Day Cup Final - Glamorgan v Somerset

This used to be a big highlight of the domestic calendar in the days of Gilette/Nat West.

Now it seems to have been shafted like everything else that isn't 16.4.

At least it's back to September although it's closer to October. No Lord's final either.

Anyway lets hope for an entertaining game.

I’m going to keep an eye on young Billy Root of Glamorgan

However I suspect Somerset will win the game but hopefully it’s a great one

I miss the days of the benson and hedges final or Nat west trophy final , getting full coverage on BBC and sometimes finishing in near darkness

Good luck to both teams

My Mrs likes Glamorgan after attending a t20 qf at CLS v them over a decade ago or so

When a wicket fell the tannoy played Glamorgan Morgan to celebrate and she still sings that now

Durham won the game and iirc Shaun Pollock was playing for Durham then and possibly Chanderpaul

I think we lost on the semi that time on finals day

To be honest, its demise was a much longer and slower process. An increased sense in later years of finals decided by the toss because of the 1030 September start (I think there was a run of at least ten consecutive wins by the side batting second in the 80s/90s, none of which was even that close) constant format changes from the late 90s onwards, including dropping the minor counties and abandoning the straight knockout format, together with the rise of T20 in the first decade of this century all contributed to a decline in popularity. The ECB killed it off altogether in 2010 and this half-arsed resurrection was always a pale shadow in prestige terms, although I’ve enjoyed aspects of it very much.

What, or who, on earth is Glamorgan Morgan? Even Google has no answers
It was played at the t20 when their batsmen were walking to the wicket

It was their theme tune at the time about a decade ago

Was a time when different players chose different tunes when they went to the crease

On the night a radio wales bloke spoke to me and the Mrs at the innings break

He thought we were welsh with the Mrs shouting Glamorgan Morgan

I'd have (depending how many I'd had) played along with it with my best Welsh accent. Yaki da boyo 🤣

  The Mrs still sings it to this day whenever the cricket is on

If there is footage of Durham v Glamorgan in a t20 QF it should be audible on the video

I’ve found the game and it was back in 2008

Durham scored 160 odd and Glamorgan were bowled out for 117

T20 qf gane
