Boro thread

Interesting thread on Chris Rigg over on FMTTM, featuring gems such as:

“ I hardly noticed him. He took his goal very well but I thought he was otherwise anonymous. There midfield 3 were comfortably outplayed in the first half and in the second half they just sat 10 yards in front of their defence. I'm sure he has great talent to be playing at 17, but until he scored he hardly had a touch. I think it was 6 touches in the first 25 minutes.”

And:

“Riggs' back heal for me was trying to get the ball back across the goal rather than an attempt to score and the goal was a "happy" fluke. I didn't see anything else from him to suggest otherwise.”

They're a weird bunch that's for certain

They were f***ing awful, tippy tapping it about with no penetration whatsoever.

That number 5 is the worst centre half I’ve seen in years, what the fuck was he doing for the goal kicks.

Run at them and they crumble, said it twice before the goal and then did it again for the goal.

Carrick must be on borrowed time ?

Still think they will be top 6 like. You can see why their xG has been so high this season, they just came up against a better defence yesterday.
The thing is listening to the second tier pod the one lad pointed out people know how to play them they look good on the stats sheet but until they get a cutting edge they’ll be a lot of games like yesterday in their future.

I watched them lose 1-0 at Derby a couple of weeks ago and they absolutely battered Derby, had loads of chances. That's the type of game that they will usually win. Nothing like yesterday, where we basically kept them at arms length once we had the lead.

I think in most games they will be on top and create plenty.

They made Brendan Rogers 6 year passing triangle in their own half Swansea City look like route one hoof ball merchants. The lack of cutting edge or even someone prepared to have a shot was shown up at the end when they ineffectively went across the pitch a couple of times giving it to team mates in slightly worse positions.

My only gripe yesterday we gave that Conway far too much room at times he had the freedom of the Sol
Thankfully more wasteful than I am

That’s what he was eluding too, they create but have no cutting edge I’m surprised as in paper they have some canny forwards.

They'll not have been paying much attention, like we wouldn't to specific opposition players. There is also a serious amount of hype and hope around him from our fans. I personally think it's justified but reality will be somewhere in the middle.

He wasn't involved a great deal before his goal, in fairness. I'm convinced he was trying to score though, because he didn't really turn around to see if anyone had tapped it in. He was going for goal.

What they should have been paying attention to is the way he handled the game physically as well. He didn't look out of place among players with far more experience than him.

1-0 (Rigg, 24')
