Patto

He’s a championship keeper. Nothing more nothing less.

He’s definitely a reason we won’t be in the PL next season but I think everyone already knows that.

Only now after a bit of wine have I brought myself to watch the goal. It’s an absolute howler mind, not sure what happened. Even the rebound wasn’t a great hit
We’re as bad signing keepers as we are strikers, both specialist positions. The number two won’t play as he’s clearly just a cheap stop gap

why is it after every game we lose the zombies need a boo boy?
Plenty of other players has bad games which put us under pressure.
If Patto's save hadn't hit Ballard and gone in, we would have been purring about it as one of the great all time saves from a Sunderland keeper.
Would also have changed the direction of the game.

Football is a game of fine margins.
They go your way sometimes
and sometimes they don't.

BTW i agree Patto really needs to work on his kicking, but i'm not going to crucify him for it

Probably the only one position we haven’t upgraded on since Speakman came in. Genuinely think if he hadn’t came through the academy people would’ve been on his back way before now. His distribution is shocking, finds the touch line more than someone on the pitch and that’s if it’s even our player. He’s generally a good shot stopper but yesterday he was very poor in both areas. Aye, the save from Whittaker was a good one but it was his kicking that put us under pressure in the first place.

Exactly, whoever is the GK coach these days hasn't managed to improve this weakness.
I think it’s just one of those thinks that you’ve either got or you haven’t. Like when you go to play 5 aside and there’s always one who just isn’t a footballer and can’t pass a ball for toffee. I don’t know if it can be coached. It’s been an issue since he got in the first team and it hasn’t improved much if at all. He can pass a ball 5 yards to the CB’s but anything that requires 30/40/50 yards more often than not it’s awful.

Hoofing it into touch deep in their half is better than passing it to them.

He’s a good second tier stopper. I thought he had potential to go higher earlier in his career but he hasn’t particularly improved since the promotion season. The distribution hasn’t got any better sadly and that’s a big thing if he’s ever going to be a level above and good there.

Like nearly all keepers, he’ll have dodgy games. Today one of them.
That’s it in a nutshell really. I don’t think there should be an implosion every time he concedes a goal where it’s possible that another human may have done better.

Absolute bed wetting arseholes on here.

Keepers have poor games and it comes as part of the territory with the position they play.

It's all on the reaction and see if he can put it behind him for the Boro game.

I don’t think it’s bed wetting to be fair.

We conceded a late goal to lose the game because he pushed the ball back into the box. Thats something he has done consistently for a while now

Aye it’s been one game so far this season but it’s a problem and will cost us again as it has in the past

I don’t always agree with Vauxie but haway man ffs was a reasonable statement in the circumstances

Well some will say it was not the best of performances from Patterson but that save onto the bar for their first was reminiscent of Monty's save against Lorimer in 73 which was superb, it was just unfortunate for him and Ballard that it came off the bar at that angle so they were very unlucky for the first, the second was a soft penalty to my way of thinking but sometimes they are given and sometimes not, the third was another good stop from the initial shot but pushed out straight to one of their players to slot home, again Plymouth were very lucky.
Patterson is a good shot stopper but needs to work on his kicking which is appalling at best and f***ing awful at worst, and although we have had some absolute donkeys between the sticks prior to Patterson we were spoiled before that with some world beaters.
So we move on and if i was asked at the start of the season if i would take 4 out of 5 games as wins and be top of the league i would have said behave man, we are Sunderland getting beaten of Plymouth was always going to be on the cards as its what we do, its just a shame that the fat granny munching scouse t**t had to be in charge. Roll on the mutants next week. HTL

Patto needs to knuckle down now. He did well to grab the shirt at such a young age but the end of last season and yesterday are giving RLB and KLD something to think about. His career can go three ways, up, down or remaining a second tier keeper. Haway youngun ffs

Weakest link in our team at the moment.

Notwithstanding pushing the ball out into danger, his kicking is poor.
The weak link perhaps that rooney referred too. I noticed they were taking ad many shots at range as possible. Perhaps he is known to parry back in to play.
