Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Firstly, there is a huge difference between 'street art' and 'tagging'. Lisbon is smothered in high quality mural work and it really adds to the atmosphere of the place. Rome, the 'Eternal City' is covered in ugly tags on every damn streetcorner. Nobody wants to see someone's messy abortion of a signature on some aged architecture, but if you're going to add to the funky beauty... then crack on.
Maybe they should hire a few muralists to depict our great city in its prime and in the future. Once a surface is covered, these halfwits tend to go elsewhere and even if they muscle in it is much easier to repair than a virgin wall.

Some of the stuff in LA for Kobe etc is amazing art and becomes an attraction in itself

Is this the bridge that on a matchday wont be open? As it can't handle the weight of so many people at once?

Weight will only become an issue if or when the Mags are escorted over it from the city centre.

In that scenario it would be perfectly sensible to use the Wearmouth bridge given the average waistline of their support.

But other than that there should be no concerns.

And the new construction building academy, the esports place, the planned x hundred houses, st peters metro station and not forgetting the club shop and the love supreme place (short cut to Tescos too) what is it there for?

It's also there to speed up traffic flow on the Wearmouth Bridge (and by default through the town) on match days etc too, so even those on a bus will benefit.

They complain how bad the high street shops are while ignoring that the same is true in every town and city.

Not sure it's much of a short cut to Tesco mind.
Maybe not, but once complete, a better walk, certainly more pleasant than going over the Wearmouth bridge to get to Tescos. Anything that seperates pedestrians and traffic has to be a good thing. Once saw some young lad trip on Wearmouth bridge after the match, laces just pushed into trainers and was lucky not to end up under a bus. Needed this bridge for a very long time despite the "worrraboot me bins" lot.

Agreed. Long overdue. Should have been built years ago.

So weird that residents of a city can be opposed to something so positive. It's as if they think Sunderland can't have nice things, almost self-deprecation. The whole Riverside plan looks amazing and we're finally looking like a city, but still they comment with their bland, generic complaints about the council while displaying no understanding about how to actually urban plan. Getting harder not to bite back at them. WDSC.
Welcome to modern England. NIMBYism is the reason we haven’t built new railways, nuclear reactors or new housing estates.

It really is a disease.
There are some who will simply never have a good word about the city or the council.
It’s as though they simply don’t want Sunderland to succeed.
It’s really puzzling and strange behaviour.
