Chris Rigg

He ( or whoever advised him ) made the right choice in signing pro forms for us it seems
Play and show what you can do rather than sit on a bench and get an odd 5 mins here and there ( or even less )
The lad is a pleasure to watch as are several of our team
We are miles away from where we were a few seasons ago
My biggest “fear “ Is squad depth at say full back -CIrkin and Hume have been tremendous
All stay fit and new lads offer something extra and who knows -?still very very early but great at the moment

Chris Rigg and soon Tommy Watson will naturally attract attention from other clubs
This is the same Chris Rigg that Dodds wouldn’t play last year and the same Tommy Watson that had to sit on the bench for the last game of the season with Ba the preferred option.
Long may Dodds never ever be in charge again.
16 too young my arse.
What are you talking about man. Rigg made 8 league starts last season all under Dodds, started 8 of the last 10 games of last season I think it was . Dodds was it charge for what 15 games?
Rigg played in every game Dodds was in charge of after Beale was sacked. Rigg made reference to Dodds after signing his contract
People are nuts like, people even commenting saying well said and stuff. Crazy
Played him right wing though ffs
They explained why they done this. It happens with loads of young players.

Rigg will get a big move. But he’s doing it the right way and playing first team games which is working a treat for his development. He could have took a big move in the summer and played u21 football at united or Bayern with the odd appearance from the bench and odd cup game here and there. It won’t be any different next summer. Personally don’t think we need to worry until he’s 19, almost fully developed physically and 100 first team games in red and white under his belt. If he keeps developing he will be ready to go to any team in the world and be a genuine first team player then.

Have always loved a hefty challenge in a man's game of football. Due to his age I honestly think he needs to kerb his sliding tackles as there fuckers out there who won't mind giving it an extra 10% and snapping his leg. He is very pure and does not need a sustained period of time away from the game. Hope I'm really wrong.

He reminds me of the level of Wayne Rooney was at when he broke through at 16 at Everton

He could be that good which is like a generational one off thing. Clubs will be circling now.

Whether he’s here or elsewhere just hope to see him fulfil the potential and see how far he can go.

I don’t think people understand how f***ing young he is and how comfortable he looks playing against fully grown blokes.

Luckily he’s hard as fuck. You’d simply have to be at 16/17 to compete with adults physically

He needs to move out of his comfort zone. Needs to learn to drive and far too easy passing in Sunderland with no challenging proper roundabouts.
I know a League Two Club that would make him very welcome and provide him with a very difficult driving test.
Just catching up on this thread and this gave me a moment of sheer joy.

Keep the faith mate. It will get better (I hope).

If we go up though it’s in his best interests to stay.

Im more worried he goes in January because the offer is to good to turn down while our league status for next season is still unknown
why would he go mid season if we're playing well and he is enjoying his football?
He'd then have to break into another team somewhere and it would upset his growth curve.

Be mad on a business level from his agent as well.

If he keeps on this trajectory with more games under his belt until end of the season, he'll be worth more and can command a better deal.
Likewise, if we did get promoted, another season under his belt at premier league level - without having to uproot will be easier for him and further increase his value.
We don't have to sell, and if we are promoted are in a position to open contract negotiations - unless these have already been stipulated into current contract.

Very few people are aware of the details of his contract, so at this moment the speculation is pretty pointless.

He’s nowhere near the level Rooney was at Everton man.

This needs to stop. These comparisons are ridiculous.

That isn’t a criticism of the lad either but come on man it’s not even close to being true.

I sort of agree with hype and I sort of agree with you.

As a reminder to those saying he’s up there with Bellingham / Rooney. Bellingham had played a full season for Birmingham (40+ games) in the Championship before he turned 17. He moved to Dortmund for £25m when he was 17 and a few days, and first played for England when he was 17 and 4 months. Rooney had scored ‘that’ goal against Arsenal before he’d turned 17, and first played for England when he was 17 and 3 months. Rigg is going to be a top, top player, why can’t we just leave it like that, and enjoy the lad whilst we’ve got him.

Thats the hope, that he’s enjoying his football and we’re playing well so staying makes the most sense, which is a strong possibility.

But if he maintains the trajectory he’s started the season….

Then he’s looking like so obviously one of the top youth talents in world football that’s showing it the strongest second tier division in world football (higher standard than 80% top tiers) that a Real or Bayern may want to pull the trigger and ‘make us an offer we can’t refuse’ say 30 or 40 million, maybe even with a loan back to us for the rest of the season, just so they don’t have to spend 60-80 million a year to 18 months from now.

It’s obvious to all and sundry that Rigg is a special talent. It’s not just that talent it’s his mentality not being phased by anything plus his physicality something he seems to relish.
People need to just reign in the expectation a little bit though some of the comparisons are a bit over the top.
