Jack Clarke

You are forgetting the key point that players have an extremely finite shelf life and most don't make it to the PL at all.

He has signed a five year contract with likely a huge signing on bonus on likely in excess of £30k a week. You are right that he would have been more than comfortable on £15k a week but the Ipswich contract is at the level where he won't need to worry about working post retirement if he was careful.

On the flip side he could have stayed with us, not been promoted and seen his value diminish. He is now in the shop window in the biggest league in the world, any player with confidence will back themselves to succeed at the highest level. He could sign for another PL team if Ipswich get relegated but he performs well.
Correct on on all counts.

We can look back at this in a year and see how it all panned out.

The other plus is that his move has freed up the team to play a different way, and it’s working quite well so far.

Bit over the top mind. He was class for us but was only here for 3 years or so.

You’d think he was a one club man and left near the end of his career.

Best of luck to him, but fully focused on only supporting the lads who are here now.
I think its been done as a mark of respect for what he done while here and to preserve the good relationship he has with the club and fans. He gave his best till the very end for us and conducted himself with dignity at all times .....compare this to how Pritchard left. His departure was in many ways similar to that of Ross Stewart...it was inevitable really. Its a shame really that his gone to Ipswich as i am 100% sure they would not have been top of the list of clubs he would have wanted to go to but unfortunately he couldnt really be choosy.
I am a little surprised he hasnt posted a leaving message wishing us luck too mind, .......or have i missed that ?

Miss him loads, think of him at all times. Spent the weekend creating a cardboard sign asking for his shirt in preparation for the day he finally returns to the SoL.

Anyone got his bobblehead for sale? Willing to pay big bucks.
Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk!🤣🤣🤣

He thanked everyone, aye.

I get that it’s a nice gesture but it’s just a bit over the top for me personally. We wished him luck when we confirmed the transfer, that was enough of a good gesture me personally.

Each to their own like.

It’s a thing now though, they all do it, the emotional Instagram message.

At least he didn’t cry in an interview like Gooch.

Clarke is articulate verbally but he can’t write using punctuation and his grammar is shocking. But I’ll forgive him. He gave us some memorable moments.

He should of asked for double his wages here say £30k a week with the caveat that he could go for 15m if we failed to get promoted, he can’t really lose then, but going and sitting on Ipswich’s bench I can’t understand

I was asked about 'my' place of work - and and knee injury wouldn't be a factor with me so not relevant ;) I get your point and agree it's very tempting for anyone, but my responses to the original poster was him seeming to defend Clarke and claim it was his agent's doing, when ultimately Clarke chose to go. So i agree with you about the football world and a player like Clarke's choice.
The whole point of my post I will try and explain to you in a more simple manner as you don’t seem to get it.
Clarke was happy at Sunderland. He was not pushing for a move away from the club.
His agent was working to get a move for Clarke. When Clarke was told what Ipswich was offering, premier league football, at least 2-3 times more salary and the opportunity to test yourself against the best players. He would have very little ambition to turn that down. Yes he could have said I don’t want to play at the highest level and I will still sit on 10k a week instead of 40k a week. Not sure anyone would turn that down unless they have a bump on the head?
Clarke never orchestrated a move away. He could have downed tools if he wanted away.
Maybe you don’t have much ambition in life and that’s fine. Perhaps that’s why you don’t my point.
Agent might have been acting under Clarke's instructions.
Maybe. We will never know but his performances didn’t show a bloke who wanted to leave
