CC : Somerset v Durham

Whether they were right or wrong (sounds very much like they were wrong), why do you think it's ok to shout at, and confront, the umpires?
Confront? . You make it sound like I was ranting/raving in a foul and aggressive manner, it was far from that and to his credit the umpire came over and spoke to me even though we disagreed. If I was foul/abusive/confrontational I'm sure one of several stewards very close to me would have said something/kicked me out. The Durham players were getting far more stick during the afternoon session from the crowd.
Good morning all, I was going to ask you, @GordonMuchallNo1Fan if there’s any rain around this morning in Taunton? BUT, then again, even if it was torrential the umpires would only insist that our boys wear longer spikes on their boots and crack on with it so Somerset can push for the win anyway.
Looking on my rain radar nothing at the moment where I am (Burnham on Sea). However there is a lot of rain South of Exeter and over the English Channel, North of Jersey and South of Bournemouth. It may head our way.

As we all know the weather never saves Durham from positions like this and it appears that the slow moving thunderstorms will miss Taunton.

Mind you I trust the weather forecasters even less than the umpires. Look at last Sunday- they were predicting heavy rain to arrive at Ch le St by 1.00pm and we ended up with a light shower at 5.30pm.

Weatherman are like umpires nowadays-they just guess.

My radar app has them hitting if they continue but we shall see. Head to the ground and just see how it goes today.

Dennis 'Yes no Yes no' Compton was well before my time but I can remember Boycott, and Lees is right up there with him in his poor running between the wickets.*

*Boycott could of course perfectly judge if he could make the run but not necessarily if his partner could!
Otoh, Ian Botham, for example, could perfectly judge that he could make the run and that his partner couldn't.

Well we are here. It's gloomy (floodlights not on) and I'd say in normal circumstances I'd say it's "touch and go" at present however this doesn't seem to be normal circumstances after last night. There is a lot of rain to the south of us.
10.33am - it's slightly raining
10.35am covers are coming on now and I've had a thumbs up off the umpire

Just been listening to Marty's intro to today. One angle about yesterday he mentions is that play was originally stopped because it was too dark for us to bowl Carse. Somerset later said they would only bowl spin so it was determined the light was good enough for that and play restarted.

But, but, but... surely it's not just the safety of the batters but also fielders and umpires? If someone managed to see a delivery and belted it into someone, could that person have seen the ball to avoid injury?

It was dangerous last night and the light was far worse and that's the general view from both sets of supporters I've spoken to this morning as only 20-30 stayed back last night. It was a lot darker at 6.05pm and even darker at 6.45pm yet at no point did the umpires take a reading. It was also dangerous for the few spectators left as we were struggling to follow the ball and I had a walk round part of the ground and it was worse. The light was in no way good enough for any form of red ball cricket last night and the excuse the umpire gave me was utter rubbish stating it was lighter at 6.05pm, it wasn't. On with today now, see how it goes.

They're starting on time which surprises me.

Umpires are taking the unusual step of proving as much entertainment as possible, playing through bad light, not wasting time after taking off the covers.

Trouble us they're doing it at a time when we could have done without it.

Odd that the umpires have stayed out.

If they start giving LBWs there will definitely be something not quite right here.
